Karol G and her 'Bichota' flair headlines 'Fortnite Festival' game this summer

As a dedicated fan of both Fortnite and Karol G, I can hardly contain my excitement for this incredible collaboration! Growing up in Colombia, I was always drawn to the vibrant rhythms of reggaeton and urban pop that Karol G so effortlessly embodies. Now, seeing her join forces with Fortnite, a game that has been such a significant part of my gaming experiences, feels like a dream come true.

Several months following rumors about a partnership between Epic Games and Karol G due to a leak, the Colombian artist herself announced on social media that she will indeed feature in a spin-off game for “Fortnite Festival.”

On August 16, this reggaeton and urban pop artist will make their debut, who hinted at their collaboration with Epic Games by sharing a video on their platforms. The clip showcased a boombox decorated with popular video game stickers, and a hand emerged from the side to reveal a cassette labeled “Fortnite x Karol G”.

As a captivated movie-goer, I can’t help but exclaim my excitement! The text, both English and Spanish, promises an extraordinary spectacle that’s about to unfold.

Through confirmation from Epic Games, this collaboration marks the debut of a Latin music artist as the main character in a spin-off game. The game includes outfits, props, and a virtual performance by this artist.

“The ‘Fortnite Festival’ is a musical game found within Fortnite, the popular title. In this game, players can choose from a wide variety of songs to perform. Previous versions have seen artists like Billie Eilish, J Balvin, and Lady Gaga appear as playable characters with their hit tracks serving as soundtracks. Following suit, some of Shakira’s songs such as ‘Qlona’ and ‘Cairo’ will now be available in the Fortnite Festival’s music collection.”

As a movie critic, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be immersed in the vibrant world of Karol G at her concert, presented by Epic Games. This five-part series will see the Latin Grammy winner perform her hits in electrifying, neon-bathed locales. The event, running from August 23 to 26, offers a unique experience that doesn’t come around often.

At this digital gathering, we’re set to include Karol G among the musical artists like Ariana Grande and Travis Scott, whose virtual selves have been brought to life in “Fortnite” for a lively performance within the game.

Additional virtual items inspired by the artist will also be available for purchase in the online shop. These items include dance moves, often referred to as emotes, that are named after her popular music videos.

The reggaeton artist’s announcement about joining “Fortnite” follows her completion of an international tour for her fourth studio album, titled “Mañana Será Bonito.” Her music, along with other artists, has significantly contributed to the rapid growth of Latin genres on streaming services. She also mentioned in Vogue España that she’s been working on her fifth studio album.
