Karla Sofia Gascon Skips SAG Awards Amid Tweet Scandal, But Will Attend Oscars!
Emilia Perez has decided not to attend the forthcoming SAG Awards due to the recent controversy surrounding her Twitter posts.
Because of the persistent debate and widespread public disapproval, the 52-year-old actress has decided not to travel to Los Angeles for the ceremony, as she’s been absent from several award ceremonies in a row.
On March 2, it’s been reported by friends that the Oscar-nominated actress, Gascon, will indeed be present at the Academy Awards.
The well-known Spanish athlete has found herself in a heated debate on social media due to the reappearance and widespread sharing of tweets containing racially insensitive and anti-Islamic remarks.
Despite being nominated for several best actress awards at the Critics Choice Awards, PGA Awards, Goya Awards, and BAFTAs for her role in the Netflix film, she has unfortunately not been able to attend these events due to the ongoing scandal surrounding her.
Gascon was the first transgender actress to be nominated for a BAFTA Film Award.
Additionally, she regretted not hearing her fellow actress Zoe Saldana’s colorful acceptance speech when it was awarded the honor of Best Supporting Actress at the BAFTAs.
Moreover, she missed out on witnessing Jacques Audiard winning the award for Best Non-English Language Film for his direction of Emilia Perez.
The musical-mystery film has earned 13 nominations for the forthcoming Academy Awards, a ceremony that this individual once labeled as an “unattractive, unattractive event” in one of her debatable tweets, and it’s contending for the Best Picture award at the event.
Additionally, Gascon became the first transgender actress to receive a nomination for the prestigious Academy Award for Best Actress.
Instead, she’s skipped the awards season promotions following revelations about some old tweets of hers that surfaced.

A large number of social media users criticized her severely when it became known that she had made numerous shocking and contentious comments about X in the past, which were originally posted on Twitter.
Apart from criticizing Islam, she additionally made derogatory remarks about George Floyd, labeling him as a ‘drug user and hustler’, and referred to Selena Gomez as a ‘wealthy rodent’ before collaborating with her on the project Emilia Perez.
Gascon has since apologized for her tweets.
In her statement through Netflix, she expressed her understanding of the hardship faced by members of underserved communities, as I myself have experienced such struggles. I offer my sincere apologies to anyone whose feelings I may have unintentionally hurt.
‘All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness.’
After the Oscar nominations and following the initial controversy, Netflix took down Gascon from a newly unveiled poster for the film.
