Karl Stefanovic’s Shocking Pay Gap with Sarah Abo Revealed – Fans Are Outraged!

TV Land’s wage equality disputes might flare up once more after an explosive report disclosed the earnings of Australia’s top TV personalities.

According to the first TV Rich List report published by The Australian, it was revealed that Karl Stefanovic, a prominent figure on Nine, earns approximately two million dollars more than his Today show colleague, Sarah Abo.

The report gathered information about the top 35 earning TV personalities across Australia’s primary commercial channels – Channel Seven, Nine, and Network Ten.

The report rounded up the highest-paid TV celebrities on our three main commercial networks in Australia – Channel Seven, Nine, and Network Ten.

As a die-hard fan, I’ve got to spill the beans: It turns out Stefanovic, aged 50, is raking in an impressive $2.8 million yearly on the small screen! That’s nearly three times more than Abo, who’s just 39. Talk about a paycheck difference that leaves me awestruck!

To be completely honest, I can’t help but marvel at the chasm between me and my idol from yesteryears. While I’m here, humbly earning my keep, he’s casually sitting pretty in the tenth spot, raking in a cool $800,000 annually – quite a stark contrast to his Today show counterpart, wouldn’t you agree?

Additionally, it’s been mentioned that Stefanovic’s earnings are nearly equal to the total compensation of current CEO Matt Stanton and former CEO Mike Sneesby, who each earned around $1.6 million and $1.5 million respectively.

It seems that among the three commercial networks, Nine boasts the largest financial resources, as six of its prominent figures find themselves in the top ten earners.

In a tight race, Scott Cam from The Block followed closely behind Stefanovic with a total of $2.4 million, while Hamish Blake, known for Lego Masters, is in third place with $2 million.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to highlight that my list of top professionals in the field includes Alison Langdon, who earns approximately $1.2 million, along with Peter Overton and Abo, each bringing home around $1 million. These newsreaders truly stand out in our industry.

Currently, Larry Emdur, our top-earning actor at Seven and a recipient of the Gold Logie award, is ranked fourth with an annual salary of approximately $1.6 million. Meanwhile, Natalie Barr, who hosts Sunrise, is placed fifth earning roughly $1.3 million per year.

In contrast, Network Ten didn’t make it into the top ten earners, with their highest-paid talent, Waleed Aly, ranking 12th and earning $700,000.

In a striking difference, Sarah Harris, Aly’s Project co-star, ranked 24th, with an estimated earnings that are approximately $500,000 to $800,000 lower than those of her co-host.

Or simply:

Sarah Harris, Aly’s co-star on The Project, is significantly less well paid than her co-host, with earnings estimated at around $260,000 to $740,000 lower.

Although there’s a significant difference in their salaries, it’s important to note that Stefanovic has been hosting Today for nearly two decades, compared to his co-host who started in 2023.

Stefanovic holds multiple roles at Nine, with experience as a reporter for 60 Minutes and also overseeing the brief-run show, This Time Next Year.

He has also filled in for presenters on Nine Radio (formerly Macquarie Media) stations 2GB and 4BC.

Rob McKnight, a previous producer at Network Ten, expressed that these substantial salaries might become obsolete for most individuals in the near future, with only the morning show personalities potentially continuing to receive such pay.

‘The days of big network contracts are long gone,’ he told the publication.

With lower earnings, television networks find it challenging to maintain high-profile talents under contract who aren’t actively contributing.

He mentioned that although there are a few instances where historical agreements come into play, generally speaking, performers tend to receive their payment for each individual performance they give.

An exception to this rule is news and morning programs, which air year-round. Since their schedules are continuous, the hosts often sign contracts that last multiple years.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Nine for comment.

Discussions about equal pay have come up before concerning Stefanovic, notably when his previous co-host, Lisa Wilkinson, left the network back in 2017 due to a reported disagreement over salaries.

Previously, it was stated by an Australian source that Karl was signed to a three-year deal worth at least $2 million annually. If the ratings succeeded, there was a possibility for him to earn additional income, potentially bringing his salary up to $3 million.

It’s reported that Lisa’s annual salary was around $1.1 million, but Nine was reluctant to raise it beyond $1.8 million.

As reported by The Daily Telegraph, it seems the offered sum wasn’t sufficient for her to continue working with the network, leading her to switch to Ten and co-host The Project there.

In a response to the allegations, CEO Hugh Marks clarified that he had proposed a sum of $1.8 million, but Lisa requested an amount of $2.3 million instead.

He shared with the media that he put in a tremendous effort to construct a package worth $1.8 million for her, but she had requested a value of $2.3 million instead.

‘It wasn’t a $200,000 shortfall to [Karl’s] $2 million magic number. It was $500,000.’
