Karen Huger of ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ released early from one-year prison sentence

Real Housewives of Potomac” star Karen Huger’s time in prison is over, earlier than expected.

On Tuesday, the reality TV personality exited the Montgomery County Detention Center in Maryland, as confirmed by a representative from the Montgomery Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to The Times. This individual had served half of a one-year prison term. The sentence was handed down in February 2024, following her conviction for driving under the influence in Potomac. However, she was only required to serve two years in prison, with one year suspended from the sentence.

On Tuesday, a representative for Huger, aged 62, did not provide an immediate response when The Times asked for a comment.

As I proudly drove my SUV out of the facility following my recent release, I couldn’t help but return warm waves to the passersby, as captured on video by the ever-vigilant Stephanie Ramirez from Fox 5 DC.

According to confirmation from the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Office, ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ actress Karen Huger is set to spend time in prison due to being convicted of driving under the influence.

In March 2024, authorities in Maryland took Huger into custody for driving under the influence. This charge came after she veered off the road, struck road signs, and crashed her Maserati by crossing a median. She was initially detained on suspicion of drunk driving and various traffic offenses, later being freed from police custody.

Following her apprehension, Huger linked the incident to her grief over the loss of her mother in 2017. She described the emotions as surging like waves, and with Mother’s Day approaching, it felt more like a powerful tidal wave, according to what she shared with TMZ.

In December, a Maryland jury found Huger guilty of driving under the influence and negligent driving. Additionally, she was determined responsible for failing to maintain a suitable driving speed to prevent a crash and for not informing authorities about a change of address. However, she was acquitted of reckless driving charges.

In a recent court verdict, Karen Huger, a notable figure on the show ‘Real Housewives of Potomac,’ was found guilty by a Maryland jury for driving under the influence, as well as multiple additional charges. This decision comes following her arrest earlier in the year.

Attorney A. Scott Bolden of Huger expressed disappointment with the jury’s ruling but also acknowledged their respect for the verdict and gratitude for the time they spent considering their case, according to a statement made to People in December.

During her personal struggles with mental health and substance use, Huger was unable to attend the “Real Housewives of Potomac” Season 9 reunion. In a pre-recorded message shown during the special event, Huger explained that she had entered a private recovery program to focus on managing her prescription drug usage and alcohol consumption.

As a cinema devotee, I’m deeply sorry to say that the incident involving my car was indeed terrifying and I wholeheartedly take responsibility for it all. With tears in my eyes, I shared this sentiment with the producers. In this moment, my personal well-being is secondary. My primary concern is for my beloved children and family who have been gravely affected by this situation. They are the ones suffering deeply right now.
