Karen Huger of ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ gets one-year jail sentence for DUI
Karen Huger, a cast member on “The Real Housewives of Potomac,” has been sentenced to serve jail time following her conviction in 2020 for driving while intoxicated.
In Montgomery County, Maryland, a judge handed down a two-year prison sentence to the 61-year-old Bravo personality on Wednesday, with one year being suspended. This sentence comes almost a year after Huger was taken into custody in March 2024 for driving under the influence and colliding her Maserati in Potomac. The Times has verified this information.
John McCarthy, the state’s attorney, emphasized that driving while intoxicated is extremely reckless. He mentioned that they deal with countless DUI cases annually and treat them with utmost importance. In this specific case, no preferential treatment was given due to the circumstances and the defendant’s driving history.
On Wednesday, I didn’t receive an immediate response from Huger’s legal representative when I reached out to them on behalf of The Times for a comment.

In simpler terms, a court in Maryland declared ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ star Karen Huger responsible for driving under the influence and multiple additional offenses following her arrest earlier in 2023.
In December, a Maryland jury found Huger guilty of charges including negligent driving, exceeding the speed limit to avoid a crash, and failing to report a change of address to authorities. As part of her punishment, Huger is required to pay a fine totaling $2,900 and will be prohibited from driving for a year following her release. Upon regaining the ability to drive, she will be subjected to five years of supervised probation, including an ignition interlock device. If she successfully completes this period, she may then serve an additional three years of unsupervised probation.
As a passionate movie-goer, I found myself in an unexpected role as an eyewitness to a harrowing incident on March 19, 2024, around 11:50 p.m. The scene unfolded before me when Maryland authorities arrived at the site of a solitary car crash. It appeared that a driver, identified as Huger, had veered across the median and collided with street signs, causing her Maserati to wreck.
Upon arrival, she was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and various traffic offenses. Later that night, she was freed from police custody. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.
During Huger’s trial, there was witness testimony and body-camera video from the police that was shown following the collision. The videos, which were viewed by The Times, depict the “Real Housewives” star resisting showing her driver’s license, appearing to slur her words, demanding that officers stay away from her, and requesting they turn off their body cameras. In additional footage, she is heard asking an officer to disable their body camera.

This week, I found myself in an unexpected situation – getting pulled over, cited, and subsequently released after an unfortunate incident involving my Maserati and a bit too much enthusiasm behind the wheel, as a fan of ‘Real Housewives of Potomac‘, that’s Karen Huger we’re talking about here.
A few days following the accident, Huger informed TMZ that her ongoing sorrow from her mother’s passing in 2017 had contributed to the collision. She explained, “Grief can ebb and flow like ocean waves, but as Mother’s Day approached, it felt more like a towering tsunami.” Additionally, she asserted that another vehicle was approaching her, causing her to swerve, and subsequently hit a road divider before striking a tree.
She emphasized, “It’s crucial to recognize your emotional condition while driving. Let me remind everyone to always wear their seat belts, for even though my Mother might be my guardian angel, it was the seatbelt that saved my life.
