Kara Tointon felt “overwhelmed” by Fool Me Once star’s new drama

As a seasoned gamer of life and dramas, I must confess that the upcoming season of “The Teacher” has piqued my curiosity to no end. Having witnessed the gripping performances in the first season starring the illustrious Sheridan Smith, I am eagerly anticipating Kara Tointon‘s portrayal of Dani Osborne.

Previously known EastEnders actress, Kara Tointon, has shared insights about her part in the sequel series of Sheridan Smith’s The Teacher. She expressed being “deeply moved by the intensity” of the upcoming season.

In the year 2022, the debut season of the Channel 5 program was broadcast, featuring Smith portraying a teacher who stood accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student.

This coming season, premiering on September 9, features Tointon portraying the character Dani Osborne, who is a teacher in the storyline.

Dani’s romantic involvement with colleague Jimmy (Will Mellor from ‘Coronation Street’) jeopardizes her marriage to partner Tim (Emmett J Scanlan, known for ‘Fool Me Once’), potentially resulting in heartbreak.

Following Dani and Jimmy leaving their chaperoning roles during a school excursion to spend an evening romantically in a boathouse, upon their return, they discover that one student is nowhere to be found.

In her recent chat with OK! Magazine, Tointon openly shared that she found it challenging to grasp the plotline as a mom of two kids, just like her character.

“For parents, it’s almost instinctive to be drawn towards that path. She expressed her astonishment upon reading the initial ten pages.”

“I thought, ‘I don’t know if I can do that’. I was so overwhelmed by the drama.”

Tointon went on to say: “I’d never portrayed a character who might first be met with disfavor from the audience, but luckily, Dominic guided me through that.”

I found it challenging to imagine making such a decision, yet considering the authenticity of this character’s existence really helped me understand.

“She’s in a relationship that has become stale. She’s trying her best but there’s no connection.”

In the upcoming season, the teacher series will be broadcast over four successive evenings. The screenplay has been penned by Michael Crompton, well-known for his work on “Silent Witness,” and Rebecca Wojciechowski, recognized from her contributions to “Death in Paradise.”

The Teacher season 2 begins on Monday, September 9 on Channel 5 and will stream on My5.
