Kanye West releases ‘lost’ album ‘Donda 2’ to streamers

Compared to Kanye West‘s usual unexpected moves, the recent unveiling of his “lost” album “Donda 2” on streaming platforms can be seen as rather tame news by today’s standards.

Initially, the rapper who is now called Ye unveiled “Donda 2” in a restricted manner back in 2022. The primary musical elements of the album were uploaded onto a unique Stem player, which is a physical gadget that allows listeners to adjust the mixes themselves.

In 2022, Alex Klein, creator of Kano, the manufacturer behind the Stem player, spoke with The Times and shared that Kanye West was initially “quite humorous and very forthright.” However, after West began promoting neo-Nazi slogans, Klein expressed his disappointment by saying, “I urged Kanye to reconsider his current path. We’ve made it clear that we cannot collaborate while he continues to spread racial conspiracy theories.

As a devoted fan, when Kanye West unveiled ‘Donda 2,’ I found myself listening to it exclusively via an innovative gadget known as the Stem Player. Now, its architect, Alex Klein, shares his insights on their collaboration’s conclusion.

The album served as a follow-up to his 2021 release “Donda,” which was his most recent mainstream solo album prior to adopting openly neo-Nazi viewpoints. Klein confirmed that he severed all connections with West in 2022, stating plainly that “there’s no agreement in progress.

Initially released under the artist name Donda on streaming platforms starting Tuesday, this LP comprises 18 tracks. Recorded during a unique period in Kanye West’s career, it includes notable collaborations: Future features on “Happy” and “Mr. Miagi,” while Jack Harlow is found on “Louie Bag.” The album also includes a remake of “5:30” from West’s “Vultures 2” album featuring Ty Dolla Sign, and an unexpected appearance by Kim Kardashian on “SCIFI,” where she expresses her admiration for West saying, “I married the greatest rapper of all time. He’s not only that, but he’s also the wealthiest Black man in America. A truly gifted, genuine genius who gave me four exceptionally talented children.

In my critique, I find myself bewildered by the unexpected revelation from Ye (formerly known as Kanye West). He has been accused of inappropriate sexual acts involving a younger male relative from his childhood. Yet, just moments later, he voices discontent over being denied the right to nurture his own offspring. This dual narrative leaves me questioning the depth of introspection and self-awareness that Ye seems to be lacking.

Lately, West’s musical releases have been going head-to-head with his controversial actions. For instance, “Carnival” featuring Ty Dolla Sign was last year’s Hot 100 chart-topper, while “Bully,” his album, was perceived as a comeback to his earlier style. However, his antics like advertising swastika-themed merchandise during the Super Bowl and accusations about engaging in inappropriate acts with a male relative have dominated the headlines, casting a long shadow over his music career.

Ye shared on Twitter that the title of his song is ‘COUSINS’, which refers to his cousin who was sentenced to life in prison for murdering a pregnant woman. He hinted at feeling responsible because he had shown him adult magazines when the cousin was only 6 years old, and later they acted upon what they saw.
