Kanye West and daughter North, 12, perform surprise duet during Mexico concert

Kanye West and his daughter, North, unexpectedly performed a song together during his concert in Mexico City on Friday.

The 48-year-old rapper, who recently apologized for making antisemitic remarks, performed on stage with a 12-year-old at the Monumental Plaza de Toros La Mexico arena.

With the stage filled with fog, the duo performed his 2014 song, “Only One,” for the packed audience.

In a video posted on X, Kanye West, also known as Ye, was seen wearing white pants, a white hoodie, and black boots.

Oh my gosh, did you SEE Saint?! He looked SO cool! He was wearing this amazing long-sleeved shirt, and black sunglasses – seriously, a mini style icon! And the necklace! It was this really cool, chunky silver chain. He’s just… perfection, honestly. I can’t even handle how stylish he is!

The young girl also showed off her bright blue hair, which was long and straight, and then shared a detailed look at her outfit on Instagram.

West and his daughter were walking around on the stage set up on the arena floor.

The pair kept a little space in between each other as they connected with the audience around them. 

The musician invited North onstage, and they walked off together. A separate Instagram video showed the artist smiling proudly as they left.

Along with Only One, West and the preteen had the chance to perform other songs as well as together including their new track Piercing On My Hand, per Billboard. 

Throughout the concert, the performer also sang popular songs like Heartless, Mercy, and Can’t Tell Me Nothing.

North co-wrote ‘Piercing On My Hand’ with her father, and it appears to be a reaction to criticism she received about her piercings.

During a trip to Italy with her mother, she showed off what looked like a piercing on her hand. The twelve-year-old responded to criticism about it several months later.

In his latest song, North raps about having a piercing in his hand while holding money, and feeling isolated – stating he has ‘no friends, just filters,’ implying people only see a curated version of his life that you wouldn’t relate to.

She feels like I’m upset that she’s so conventional. She’s questioning if she’s going too far, but also wants to express herself more with things like piercings and tattoos. The preteen has previously pursued her interest in the music industry. 

Last January, North West unexpectedly appeared on FKA Twigs’ album, EUSEXUA. Her rap verse in Japanese on the song “Childlike Things” received a varied response from fans.

North revealed the news at a listening event for her album, ‘Vultures 2,’ in Arizona, with her father present on stage beside her.

Northie announced she’s been creating an album titled ‘Elementary School Drop Out,’ which immediately received a huge reaction from the audience, who cheered and applauded enthusiastically.

In 2024, North West started her acting career by playing Young Simba at a concert celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Lion King.

She performed ‘I Just Can’t Wait To Be King’ at The Hollywood Bowl, dressed in a lion costume.

West has previously used social media to post a video of him teaching his oldest daughter how to record music in the studio.

Kim Kardashian recently shared a photo on her Instagram Stories that seems to show her inside a recording studio.

Last month, in December, the young girl officially joined Instagram and already has close to 2 million followers.

Kanye West will perform in Mexico City on Saturday, following his recent apology for past antisemitic comments. He issued the apology in a full-page ad that appeared in the Wall Street Journal.

The rapper shared that his bipolar disorder had made it difficult to stay grounded, and he asked for support as he works towards getting better.
