Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo debate race in America

In a discussion about who could be considered the first African-American UFC champion, Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo debated issues related to race in America. When Usman questioned whether Cejudo believed that skin color doesn’t affect the quality of life, Cejudo responded by stating, “In America, no.”

It’s surprising that Cejudo, being a person of color like many others, seems oblivious to the impact race and skin tone have on various aspects of life. Although Usman might face greater challenges than Cejudo did or currently does, I’m still taken aback by his nonchalant dismissal of Usman’s experiences. It’s crucial we learn to listen more and acknowledge that just because we haven’t encountered or felt racism doesn’t mean it isn’t real.

Alex Pereira issues warning for Dricus du Plessis after UFC 305

Previously crowned UFC middleweight and current light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira has given a heads-up to Dricus du Plessis, following his win over Israel Adesanya at UFC 305. On Instagram, he stated, “I’ll be stepping down to the 185 weight class again.”

I’m generally not fond of double champion battles, finding them unnecessary. However, in the case of Pereira, I’m eager to witness his fights and hope he becomes a true champ-champ. While I’m unsure if this fight will occur, I wholeheartedly support it should it happen.

Sean O’Malley reacts to Merab Dvalishbili’s CJI altercation

On Friday night at CJI, Merab Dvalishvili jumped into the crowd to confront a heckler and now his next opponent, Sean O’Malley is reacting to the moment. “He can be sued for assaulting a civilian,” O’Malley continued. “You’re not allowed to assault somebody. You can’t just put your hands on somebody. Attention all ‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley fans: will you guys please, from the bottom of my heart, quit making fun of Merab. He can’t handle it. He’s very insecure.”

In this case, O’Malley seems to be correct. Merab shouldn’t have stood up to argue with the spectator. He let his feelings guide him, which has now made it clear to everyone how to provoke him. It takes a mature individual not to respond in such situations. Conversely, fans should show more restraint. Verbally attacking someone who possesses significant power isn’t intelligent under any circumstances. On the contrary, both Merab and the fan displayed their lack of wisdom on Friday.
