Kaley Cuoco is looking back at one of the most nerve-wracking moments of her early career.
In a recent interview on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard, the 40-year-old actress discussed joining the final season of Charmed and shared a story about a disturbing experience she had on set.
Shepard admitted there was one thing he’d been wanting to ask: he noticed on her resume that joining the eighth season of ‘Charmed’ seemed like it could have been a difficult or risky move, and he was curious about that experience.
Cuoco admitted the experience felt overwhelming from the start.
She remembered being 21 years old at the time, saying, ‘It’s hard to believe now, but if I had known then what I know now, I never would have allowed things to unfold as they did.’
The actress said her first day on the job wasn’t just a simple introduction – it was actually the official photoshoot for the new season of the show.
She explained that they were doing a new photoshoot with the cast to kick off season eight, and it would take all day. ‘I’m the new one,’ she said, ‘and I’ll be working with Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan, and Holly Marie Combs. It’s a bit surreal – I’ve never met them before! I’m essentially joining their group for a family photo, and I’m only 21.’
Even though she playfully claimed to be feeling her best and thought she was incredibly cool, Cuoco confessed she was also really scared at the same time.
Her anxiety only intensified when she arrived during the cast’s lunch break.
Okay, so I finally went to the gallery, and honestly, I was a total wreck! My heart was pounding. And you won’t believe it – it was lunchtime for the staff, and they were all just… hanging out in the corners, eating. It was amazing, just to be near them while they were taking a break. I didn’t want to bother them, of course, but still! It was perfect.
That’s when Alyssa Milano made a lasting impression.
Kaley Cuoco recounted a heartwarming encounter with Alyssa Milano. Milano spotted Cuoco and immediately rushed over to greet her, enthusiastically welcoming her to the show with a huge hug. Cuoco was touched by Milano’s kindness and said she’ll never forget the moment.
She added that the moment shaped how she treats newcomers on her own sets.
Cuoco said it was the kindest gesture anyone had ever shown her. It made such an impression that she now always tries to go above and beyond for others in similar situations.
However, not every interaction was as warm.
Kaley Cuoco admitted she wasn’t sure how Rose McGowan felt about her. “I still don’t know if she liked me,” Cuoco said, adding, “But Alyssa was amazing. I was really scared.”
Cuoco noted that joining a long-running series midstream can feel deeply awkward.
It’s strange joining a show that’s been around for so long, especially since I started in year eight and only did one season. It felt like crashing someone else’s family dinner – really awkward!
She later carried that awareness with her when she starred on The Big Bang Theory for 12 seasons.
You know, I still think about my time on The Big Bang Theory – twelve years is a long time with anyone! It’s strange, because you get to know your castmates so well, and I was always conscious of how odd it must be for any new actor joining us. I always tried to be mindful of that, and I especially remembered how Alyssa felt when she first came on the show – I wanted to make things as comfortable as possible for anyone new.
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for McGowan but hasn’t received a response yet.
Charmed first aired on The WB in October 1998 and told the story of three sisters who used their magic to fight supernatural forces.
Oh my gosh, Brian Milano was with Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty! It was magical… until Shannen left after the third season. Everyone said it was because things got really tense on set, and honestly, it broke my heart! I just couldn’t believe it, they were such a dynamic trio!
McGowan later joined the series in Season 4 as Paige Matthews.
Cuoco ultimately joined the series in 2005 as Billie Jenkins for its eighth and final season.
Cuoco recently shared that her experience on the show Charmed was ‘intense and difficult,’ reflecting on it over the weekend.
I initially took the job on ‘Charmed’ just thinking it would be a fun opportunity,” she explained. “But it turned out to have a bigger impact than I expected. Because of that experience, I’ve always made a point of being understanding and welcoming to newcomers on any set – whether they’re crew members or actors, even if they only have a single line.
Cuoco elaborated on her time on the show, mentioning that she had both positive and negative experiences with her colleagues – some were great, and others weren’t.
I have a very clear memory of both of them. Having worked in this field my entire life, most of my experiences have been positive, but I specifically remember thinking, ‘I want to make sure everyone feels included.’ It’s awful to feel like an outsider, especially on a film set where people have known each other for a long time and are comfortable with each other. It can be really difficult for someone new to join that environment, she explained.
