As a huge fan of The Big Bang Theory, I was so excited to hear Kaley Cuoco hinting she might pop up in the new spinoff, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe! Apparently, it’s set in the future and kicks off with Stuart Bloom having to fix a mess he made with one of Sheldon and Leonard’s inventions. Of course, being Stuart, things quickly escalate, and he somehow manages to trigger a full-blown, universe-ending crisis! I can’t wait to see how he tries to handle that.
Okay, so I was really excited to hear about this! It’s a spin-off from The Big Bang Theory – and get this, it’s being made by the same guys, Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, plus Zak Penn who wrote The Avengers! This is the first Big Bang show they’re planning for HBO Max, which is awesome. Kevin Sussman is back as Stuart, and they’ve also brought back Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie as Denise, Bert, and Kripke. It’s coming out later this year, and I’m already setting a reminder!
Kaley Cuoco recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight about her upcoming thriller, Vanishing, which debuts on MGM+ on February 1st. She was asked if she might reprise her role as Penny in Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, but she didn’t give a clear answer. However, her surprised expression during the interview, as seen in the video, suggests she might be involved.
Kaley Cuoco recently spoke with ScreenRant about her experience with The Big Bang Theory. Reflecting on the show’s growth over its twelve seasons, and her role as Penny, she praised co-creator Chuck Lorre and noted how the franchise has expanded with the Young Sheldon prequel and continues to evolve.
I wasn’t surprised to see them explore the ‘Big Bang Theory’ universe with shows like ‘Young Sheldon,’ and I think this new direction is really smart. The creators, especially Chuck Lorre, are incredibly talented. When you care about a show as much as I do, it makes sense to build on it in creative and unexpected ways. It’s wonderful that it all started with something simple – me and a couple of guys on a couch eating Chinese food – and grew into something truly iconic. I understand why people feel such a connection to the show, because I’ve felt that way about other shows I grew up with. It’s become a part of TV history, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
So, I was listening to an interview with Kaley Cuoco, and Crossan asked her about potentially reprising her role as Penny. She mentioned she’s known Chuck Lorre – the creator of The Big Bang Theory – for ages, going all the way back to when she was a teenager and auditioning for a show that never actually happened. But the really interesting part is she basically said she’d absolutely be up for working with him again on anything related to The Big Bang Theory if the chance came along. It’s cool to hear she’s open to it!
I’ve had a strong working relationship with Chuck Lorre for a very long time – I first worked with him when I was just 14 years old, actually on a pilot that didn’t get picked up. We ended up collaborating later, and I really value our connection. I have a lot of affection for Chuck; he’s a significant person in my life, and I’ve always been willing to say yes to anything he asks. If he called with a project, I’d almost certainly be on board. There isn’t much he could suggest that I’d turn down, and honestly, he’s the one person I’d want to work with above all others.
While it’s still unclear if Kaley Cuoco will be involved in the new HBO Max series, the rest of the cast is now set. Ryan Cartwright, Josh Brener, and Tommy Walker will appear in recurring roles on Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. Both Cartwright and Brener were also in the original series, but they’ll be playing different characters this time around.
| Actor Name | Stuart Fails to Save the Universe Character | Big Big Theory Character |
|---|---|---|
| Ryan Cartwright | Kyle, a comic book nerd and a daily visitor to Stuart’s comic book store | Cole, a British student (season 6, episode 18) |
| Josh Brener | Trevor | Dale, an employee at the Comic Book Store |
| Tommy Walker | Gary, Denise’s new boyfriend | N/A |
With the new show, Stuart Saves the Universe, exploring the idea of multiple universes, creator Chuck Lorre has suggested we might see characters from The Big Bang Theory make appearances – possibly in new or familiar roles. Kaley Cuoco could be among them, but details will likely become clearer as the show gets closer to its release date.
