Hidden from the spotlight yet significantly impactful, Kal Banx has been instrumental in shaping the contemporary hip hop production landscape. He has crafted tracks for a variety of top rappers signed to Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE), such as Doechii, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad, to name but a few. His production work is self-explanatory in terms of quality. Besides his contributions to Baby Keem, Denzel Curry, Smino, and Little Simz, it’s surprising that Banx, who’s associated with TDE and has even won a Grammy, is only now stepping into the limelight for his solo debut. Yet, it’s evident he wanted to take his time to get it right. Thus, we have the album “RHODA:” a multifaceted piece of work.

Absolutely, RHODA’s production is exceptional, as Banx thrives on his vast creative freedom throughout the extensive tracklist. He primarily handles the production with support from Thelonious Martin and Mez. Notably, Mez not only contributes to the production but also delivers a verse on the album standout “CHICKEN.

The central ideas of the song permeate throughout the entire album, an endeavor deeply grounded in self, kinship, and the notion of belonging.

In a recent Instagram post, Banx discussed the theme behind her album titled “RHODA.” This collection is centered around discovering one’s sense of home and stability. After a profound life-altering event, the loss of her mother, Banx found herself contemplating what it means to have a home and a solid foundation in life. With the support her mother had provided through reassurance, guidance, and direction, she realized just how much of her self-assurance and comprehension came from her mother’s presence.

When she departed, I felt lost and uncertain – unsure of my direction, my actions, or even the reality around me. This prompted me to reflect deeply. As a result, I found myself writing more frequently and delving deeper into my thoughts. This introspection eventually led me to a profound realization: home is not necessarily a place but rather a feeling that encompasses the experiences and memories that shape our identity.

The musical project RHODA consists of a pair of sections, with the initial segment containing 12 songs and the subsequent one offering 13, resulting in a grand total of 25 tracks across both.
