Kaia Gerber shares heartbreaking tribute to ‘my forever best friend’ after devastating family loss

Kaia Gerber spoke up a few days after her mom, Cindy Crawford, disclosed the heartbreaking family tragedy they had experienced.

23-year-old supermodel and actress paid an emotional tribute to her longtime companion, the 17-year-old family dog named Widget, expressing deep sorrow in a heartfelt message.

After her brother, Presley Gerber, paid tribute to their cherished family pet and their mother announced the heartbreaking news, she followed up with her own post.

On a Tuesday, the star of Saturday Night shared a video on Instagram, showing her giving a kiss to her long-time pet from childhood.

She penned, “Bidding farewell to my lifelong best buddy,” accompanied by a monochrome clip. “Thanks for seventeen delightful years, little ballerina.

Last week, Gerber’s mom Crawford shared the sad news that Widget died on May 22. 

The renowned model, now 59 years old, posted nostalgic images featuring her cherished pet dog, Widget, accompanied by a heartfelt message of affection.

She mentioned that she wasn’t raised around dogs and, in truth, had been scared of them ever since she was a child due to being bitten by a dog on two separate occasions when she was young.

As a parent, I made a conscious decision to break the cycle of my own canine apprehension. So, I brought home not one but two tiny pooches – ones that were more cuddly than intimidating, if you catch my drift.

She added: ‘What I didn’t know was how much fun having little furry friends adds to family life. 

Crawford wrote that he cherished observing his children chasing our pets, playing dress-up with them, or simply snuggling together on the sofa,”

Or more colloquially:

“In his own words, Crawford adored seeing the kids play tag with our dogs, putting costumes on them, and just lounging together on the couch.

As time passed, with both my children and our dogs maturing, the warmth they radiated only added to the happiness in our household.

She also revealed Widget’s sister, their other family pet Sugar, previously died too. 

She posted that they had to part ways with their little girl named Widget on the previous day, as she finished off her message.

For seventeen long years, she was like a playful pup in our lives, and now we deeply mourn her departure. We can only hope that she’s frolicking with her beloved canine companion, Sugar, enjoying an endless supply of treats, in a place where dogs spend their eternal days happily playing.

Kaia’s sibling, Presley – the offspring of Crawford and Rande Gerber – likewise paid homage to their cherished Shih Tzu.

He shared a throwback photo of him with Widget and wrote: ‘The two blondes in the fam.’ 

Accompanying a fresh photo of his pet, he wrote a poignant message: “What a journey this day has been…

I’ll always cherish our bond, Widget. You are deeply loved and your memory will stay with me eternally. May you soar ever higher, like an angel.
