As a seasoned animal lover and follower of Country music, I’ve seen my fair share of heartwarming tales, but the story of Pepper, the brave doggie bitten by a Timber Rattlesnake, has truly touched my heart. It’s a testament to the unbreakable bond between humans and their pets that even in the face of danger, Pepper’s family stood by her side.

Kacey Musgraves commended her dog, Pepper, for possibly averting a dangerous encounter with a Timber Rattlesnake and its venomous bite.

Originating from Texas, a 36-year-old woman shared on Instagram last Friday that she urgently needed to bring her pet dog to the veterinary hospital due to a snake bite. The unfortunate incident occurred when she and two others unknowingly stood between her and the snake, causing it to bite her beloved canine companion.

She admitted in one of her photos that she had truly prevented Jacob Pix and Trevor Davis from getting hurt by accidentally stepping on something barefoot. In the same picture, she placed a halo above Pepper (the dog) to indicate his protective role.

Initially, Musgrave shared a picture of her cherished adopted dog who seemed unwell, accompanied by the caption, “Copperhead: 1 vs Pepper: 0.” However, in her subsequent post, she admitted that it was actually a Timber Rattlesnake.

Gazing at the snapshot, I can’t help but notice what seems to be a crimson smear on Pepper’s snout, right beside her mouth, and another trace of blood on one of her paws. It’s as if the very essence of my beloved pup is seeping out, causing me an unsettling concern.

It seems she’ll recover. She just has minor injuries,” the country music artist shared on Instagram, adding that they rushed her to the vet for some venom antidote.

The next photo was a closeup on one of her paws that had more blood, which could possibly indicate that this could be the spot where Pepper got bit.

In the initial video, Pepper is observed lying motionless on a hospital floor, her eyes shut, and there’s an IV attached to her leg.

She mentioned that her dog, being a type of Australian Cattle Dog known as Blue Heeler, was unusually calm after being bitten, due to its typically energetic nature.

She briefly opened her eyes, allowing her human family to capture another video of her lying on the floor, while the antivenom was effectively working.

Amongst the rattlesnakes, it’s just the Timber variety that inhabits the Northeastern part of the United States. It ranks second only to its western counterpart, the prairie rattlesnake, as the most northernly venomous snake species found in North America.

Like all other pit vipers, it typically packs a very toxic venomous bite when it feels threatened.

Generally speaking, adults tend to reach between 91-152 centimeters in height, but the longest one ever recorded was a staggering 189.2 centimeters, that is, approximately six feet and 2.5 inches.

This snake, possibly, ranks among North America’s most hazardous, given its extended fangs, substantial size, and potent venom production – as stated on Wikipedia.

In 2020, when she was still a puppy, Musgraves and her former spouse, Ruston Kelly, took in a rescued dog as their own.

At this juncture, the Happy & Sad star clarified the kind of rattlesnake that had bitten Pepper.

‘Update: It was actually a Timber Rattlesnake not a Copperhead,’ she wrote along with an image that appears to show Pepper starting to regian her composure and become more alert.

In the latest development, the heroic canine appeared unchanged, her bright eyes wide and alert, as one of the veterinary team gently stroked her tummy.

She wrote atop the picture of Pepper standing tall with bright eyes, “Pepper is in good shape and feeling well, despite being on strong pain medications.” She then shared that she would be returning home the following day.

Musgaves has been performing live to promote her sixth studio album, Deeper Well, released in March, but at the moment, she’s taking a brief hiatus from touring.

Following its commencement in April, the Deeper Well World Tour will recommence on November 6 in Laval, Quebec, Canada, and continue through to December 7, concluding at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
