Jurassic World Rebirth Rips Off Scream VI’s Iconic Bodega Scene with Dinosaurs

Spoilers ahead for Jurassic World Rebirth.

Jurassic Park is among my favorite science fiction films, and I belong to the generation that grew up with this franchise. I’ve stayed current with all the movies (which are available on Peacock), and I even went to watch Gareth Edwards’ “Reboot” on its opening night. I found the latest Jurassic World movie entertaining, but as a die-hard Scream fan, I couldn’t help but notice that certain scenes reminded me of the Ghostface scene in the bodega from Scream VI.

In the third act of Jurassic World Rebirth, the remaining human characters find themselves at a gas station, only to be ambushed by mutadons. As they scramble through the aisles and attempt to divert the beast, the scene seemed strikingly similar to a nerve-wracking sequence in Scream VI, which is available for streaming with a Paramount+ subscription. Here’s a link for you to watch it: [Scream VI link].

Is it just me, or do these new scenes from the Jurassic World Rebirth trailers seem strikingly similar? In both sequences, the protagonists are stealthily navigating small stores to evade a menacing figure, requiring them to crawl and tread quietly. They even resort to tossing a can as a diversion against either the mutadon or Ghostface. Additionally, there are shots where characters hide behind shelves while their stalker looms directly overhead in both scenarios.

Stream the Jurassic series on Peacock! Prices begin at just $7.99 per month, or you can upgrade to Peacock Premium for an ad-free experience and the ability to download shows for offline viewing – all for a yearly cost of $79.99. Grab the deal now!

It’s worth mentioning that both “Scream VI” and “Rebirth” were skillfully created with nail-biting scenes that left me impressed. Therefore, it’s only fair to acknowledge the hard work of the cast and crew. However, being a horror enthusiast who regards “Scream” as the pinnacle of horror films, I couldn’t help but wonder if others were noticing the same similarities. I looked over to my companion/ fellow moviegoers inquisitively to seek confirmation.

In my opinion, it doesn’t seem like the creators of Rebirth intentionally copied the style of Scream VI. However, there was an obvious resemblance between the gas station scene and the famous kitchen sequence in Jurassic Park, which made me feel somewhat distracted while watching that section of Edwards’ latest sci-fi hit.

Currently, it’s an exciting time for horror enthusiasts as both “Scream VI” and “Jurassic World: Rebirth” deliver numerous frights throughout their duration. Although we’re aware that “Scream 7” is in development, it will be intriguing to discover if the upcoming “Jurassic” film sparks a fresh series of movies. Fans may have been disappointed with the conclusion of the previous trilogy in “Dominion,” which emphasized bugs over actual dinosaurs. Thus, “Rebirth” could potentially initiate a new trilogy… if it achieves success at the box office and audiences choose to watch it during the holiday weekend.
