Julianne Hough and Ryan Seacrest are showing there are no hard feelings between them as they get ready to work together again on New Year’s Eve. This will be their first time reuniting professionally in 12 years, following their three-year relationship that ended some time ago.
Although spending the holidays with an ex can be difficult, Julianne Hough, 37, will be working with her former partner, 50, on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. They’ll be seeing each other professionally during the event.
Hough and Rob Gronkowski will host the broadcast from Las Vegas, while Ryan Seacrest and Rita Ora will host from New York City.
The appearance marks Hough’s first year as a co-host on the iconic countdown special.
She previously dated Seacrest from 2010 to 2013.
Last year, while on the Armchair Expert podcast, the Footloose actress openly talked about her relationship, describing it as a fast and intense romance that quickly consumed her.

She shared that being with him opened her eyes to experiences she’d never imagined, but ultimately, the relationship caused her to feel like she was losing her own identity.
She described a sudden and disorienting shift in her circumstances. “It felt like the ground disappeared beneath me,” she explained, “and I was completely unprepared for everything that followed – experiences I never imagined existed.”
Hough admitted she started to worry about how others viewed their relationship, specifically that people might assume she was with Seacrest for his fame and lifestyle.
She explained she never wanted anyone to assume she was with him for the wrong reasons. So, she began to downplay her own personality and tried too hard to be what he wanted, becoming overly adaptable to make him happy.
She also wondered if she’d ever really been in love, even though she’d had several public relationships.
She wondered if she’d ever experienced real love, admitting that what she’d always cherished was the feeling of being loved. She’d felt affection for everyone she’d dated, but questioned if it was truly love.
Honestly, it just broke my heart to hear her talk about it, but she said she felt totally out of it during the relationship, like she wasn’t even really there. She finally admitted it was because we were both just going in such different directions with our work, and that’s what ultimately pulled us apart. It’s so sad, but at least she explained it, you know? I just wish things could have been different.
She remembered being told that she had a perfect life when she chose to leave it all behind. But she explained, ‘It wasn’t something I created, and I needed to feel the satisfaction of building my own life.’

In 2020, during an Instagram Live conversation with Valeria Lipovetsky, Hough confessed she often felt unworthy of the luxurious life she shared with Seacrest.
The star, who grew up in Utah with her brother Derek Hough, described a life vastly different from her childhood. She explained that she had access to private planes and yachts and lived in a luxurious home.
She explained that leaving the relationship allowed her to rediscover herself.
She explained she made it for herself because she felt she hadn’t earned the right to have it, and didn’t feel deserving of it.
Hough later admitted she lost her sense of identity in the aftermath of the split.
She explained that at 24, she realized she didn’t have all the answers and wasn’t familiar with everything – specifically, she didn’t know who Julianne was. This moment marked a shift away from trying to be perfect and toward being more open to new experiences.
The actress married hockey player Brooks Laich in 2017. They separated in May 2020 and officially divorced in 2022.
