Julian McMahon honored by Nicolas Cage, Rose McGowan and more co-stars after shock cancer death at 56

Heartfelt tributes have been shared by fans and peers following the sad news of Julian McMahon‘s passing, who was best known for his role in Nip/Tuck, after a quiet battle with health issues at the age of 56.

It was recently disclosed by his wife that the 56-year-old actor, who hails from both Australia and America, had been concealing a struggle with cancer. She shared this painful news in a touching statement on Friday.

In March, I couldn’t help but be there at SXSW in Austin, Texas, where I got the rare opportunity to witness the incredible Julian and the legendary Nicholas Cage together! They were promoting their mind-bending psychological thriller, “The Surfer”. Oh, what a day it was for this over-the-moon fan!

Currently, Nicholas has expressed his feelings about the ‘very upsetting information,’ stating: ‘For six weeks, I collaborated with Julian, and he was undeniably one of the most gifted performers I’ve ever worked with.’

He mentioned that working with him on The Surfer was among his most cherished experiences and that Julian is one of his all-time favorite co-stars. He was a compassionate and wise individual. Sending my heartfelt condolences to his loved ones, he said. (Source: Deadline)

Rose McGowan, a co-star from Charmed, posted fan art of Julian on her Instagram Stories and commented: “Dear Julian, beacon of genius, raw talent, and wit. My thoughts are with you, your loved ones, and admirers worldwide. May they find solace during this difficult time.

Dylan Walsh, like Julian, one of the two main actors from the TV show Nip/Tuck, expressed his feelings following the sudden demise of his former co-star.

He exclaimed, “I’m shocked.” They shared the adventure of riding that wave, and he cared deeply for him. My thoughts are with Kelly and Maddy during this difficult time. I can imagine what you would say to bring a smile to your face – all those private jokes we shared. For all the times you stood by me, and oh, the laughter we had! My heart goes out to you. Rest in eternal peace.

In an Instagram post, Julian’s frequent co-star from the series Nip/Tuck, Kelly Carlson, expressed her shock and sadness upon learning about his passing. She mentioned that she had no idea he had been unwell for some time prior to his death. Wow, I didn’t realize he wasn’t in good health recently.

Offering her sympathies to his family, she mentioned that it’s been difficult to grasp the situation due to their complex relationship as on-again, off-again spouses over many years. He also served as a dear friend and collaborator in acting projects.

She expressed her gratitude for the fantastic six to seven years they spent working on Nip/Tuck alongside each other, and there was an abundance of enjoyment throughout those years. Everyone involved in the project shared the same level of joy.

Kelly expressed that viewers of their show may feel deeply disappointed, and I can understand why. Nip/Tuck’s character was the essence of energy, charm, humor, appeal, and more, which made him truly exceptional. I hope his final journey was serene. May he find peace, as I believe he lived a fulfilling life, which is something positive to remember.

Dick Wolf, creator of Law & Order and producer of Julian’s popular series FBI: Most Wanted, expressed sorrow upon hearing the unfortunate news. He stated, “We at Wolf Entertainment are profoundly saddened by Julian’s death, and our sympathies extend to his entire family.

Ioan Gruffud expressed deep sorrow upon hearing the unfortunate news about Julian. They had worked together in the Fantastic Four films between 2005 and 2007.

Despite the fact that our teams were often rivals, a sense of lightheartedness and merriment always filled the air when we collaborated together, as Ioan explained further.

Each interaction I had with him brought me immense pleasure. It was truly an privilege to address him as Dr. Richards when he was Dr. Doom. My sympathies are with his loved ones during this difficult time. May Julian find peace in the next chapter of his journey.

Michael Chiklis, who starred alongside them in Fantastic Four, expressed his sadness on Instagram about the death of his friend Julian. Life can be so valuable yet delicate, and my sympathies go out to his family during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Jules.

Holly Marie-Combs, another star from Charmed, expressed: ‘You were truly unique, beyond description. Your infectious enthusiasm for life and humorous perspective that made no sense yet was somehow perfect will be deeply missed. The happiness and amusement you brought to us will forever remain etched in our memories. I hope you find your dancing partner in the afterlife among those rose petals.’

In a separate post on her Instagram Stories, she affectionately addressed her former co-star as ‘The most annoying person I’ve ever loved.’

On this unfortunate day, my co-star from Charmed, Brian Krause, shared: ‘It’s a sorrowful day for our Charmed family. Julian was not only incredibly witty and strikingly handsome but also a genuinely good person. Our thoughts are with his dear family and friends during this difficult time. He will leave an unfillable void.’

In a heartfelt message, Kelly, who got married to Julian McMahon just last year, announced that her cherished husband, Julian, passed away this week following his brave fight against cancer. She expressed her desire to share this news with the world.

Julian cherished every moment of life. He held a special affection for his beloved family, friends, and colleagues. His passion extended beyond these circles, encompassing his dedicated fans as well. His heartfelt aspiration was to infuse happiness into countless lives wherever he could.

‘During this difficult period, we kindly request space and privacy for our family to mourn. At the same time, we hope that everyone who found happiness with Julian will continue to find joy in their lives. We are thankful for the wonderful memories, as expressed in her statement shared by Deadline.’

The talented actor was best known for his role as Dr. Christian Troy on the FX series Nip/Tuck.

He acted alongside Dylan Walsh, who played Sean McNamara, in a medical drama with a campy feel that aired for six seasons between 2003 and 2010.

In 2004, the actor was also recognized with a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Drama Television Series. However, it was Ian McShane who won the award for his performance in HBO’s Deadwood, surpassing our star’s achievement.

Julian joined the cast of FBI: Most Wanted on CBS starting from 2020, playing the role of Jess LaCroix. However, he unexpectedly left the show in March 2022, concluding his three-season run.

Previously, he gained recognition for playing the lead role of Ben Lucini on the Australian TV series Home & Away, a role he held from 1990 to 1991.

The actor took on the role of Detective John Grant in the American crime drama series, Profiler, from 1996 to 2000.

Subsequently, he captured the affection of numerous people by playing Cole Turner on Charmed during seasons 3 to 5 from 2000 to 2003. Later, he made a comeback as a guest star during season 7 in 2005.

Born in Sydney, Australia, this individual also made a significant mark on the silver screen, portraying the legendary supervillain Dr. Doom in not one but two Marvel films – Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007).

He also starred alongside Sandra Bullock in 2007 supernatural psychological thriller Premonition.

In 2014, after being together for 11 years prior, Julian tied the knot with his beloved partner, Kelly, during a heartwarming ceremony held at Lake Tahoe, a beautiful lakeside location shared by California and Nevada. This marked his third marriage.

In the past, Julian was wedded to model and Baywatch actress Brooke Burns from 1999 until 2001. They are proud parents of a 25-year-old daughter named Madison Elizabeth McMahon.

In addition, he was well-known for being married to the Australian singer and television personality Dannii Minogue from 1994 to 1995.

Besides his personal endeavors, Julian is connected to the Australian government due to his family background. Specifically, he’s the son of Sir William McMahon, a past Prime Minister of Australia who led the country from 1971 to 1972 and was the head of the Liberal Party of Australia during that time.

In an interview with The Herald Sun back in 2018, he discussed his upbringing, stating that his father, who was born in 1908, lived in a completely different era compared to the one he experienced while raising him.

It seems likely he encountered a puzzling discrepancy between the way you were raised in 1908 compared to how you parent now in 1972, which would have caused significant conflict. Additionally, being a husband during that era would have been vastly different.

In a fitting twist, his last acting gig saw him play the Australian Prime Minister in the Netflix murder mystery series titled The Residence, marking a return to where it all began for him.
