Julia Roberts says ‘f*** you’ to looters as $10M homes continue to be robbed during LA fires
Julia Roberts made a sharp remark towards criminals exploiting the vulnerable during the Los Angeles wildfires.
On Monday the Pretty Woman star took to Instagram with a rare remark.
‘F.U. looters,’ wrote the mother of three who is married to movie cinematographer Danny Moder.
Looters continue to prey on vacant, high-end mansions valued at around $10 million in various neighborhoods, as families have evacuated and left them unguarded. In these locations, fire alarms have been silenced because of power outages. Furthermore, police are finding it challenging to reach these areas due to the fire risks present.
Governor Gavin Newsom of California has criticized tech magnate Elon Musk, alleging that he was inciting theft by his recent statements.
Elon has been sharing disinformation; Musk, who is President-elect Donald Trump’s supporter.
Musk said that Gavin was decriminalizing looting but that is not true.
Newsom warned against promoting theft by deceiving others into thinking it’s legal. In reality, it remains unlawful, just as it has been all along.
About 30 people have been arrested for suspected looting.
The majority of Julia’s message focused on the heartbreak caused by the Palisades wildfire. She expressed that there is a great deal of recovery and aid required, and she conveyed optimism by saying, ‘We will persevere through this.’
She then plugged a talent agency that is reaching out with money.
The California Community Foundation, in partnership with CoreResponse, Eisner Foundation, and Los Angeles Unified School District, are initiating the SoCal Fire Fund to offer immediate and long-term aid to everyone affected by the ongoing wildfires.
Julia is known to have owned a home in Malibu.
After that, she relocated to San Francisco and put her house up for sale. Since then, she has been spotted around the Bay Area, though her current residence remains unclear.
The announcement of the Oscars nominations has been postponed again, following the spread of wildfires in Los Angeles, as reported by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Previously, the Academy extended the voting period by an additional two days ‘in order to provide members with extra time to vote’, thereby delaying the announcement of nominations until January 19 due to many individuals being forced to leave their homes because of evacuations.
On Monday, it was confirmed that the 97th Oscars nomination announcements, led by CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang, will be postponed to January 23. This significant event will take place online without any on-site media coverage.
The fires have left everyone in our community deeply saddened and mourning the significant losses that many of us have faced,” the collective message expressed.
The Academy consistently serves as a bonding agent across the film industry, and we pledge our solidarity during challenging times.
Given that fires in the Los Angeles region are ongoing, we believe it’s essential to prolong our voting duration and postpone the announcement of our nominations, providing more time for our members to participate.
Mr. Kramer and Ms. Yang affirmed that they’ve implemented essential modifications to planned activities, such as postponing the yearly nominees lunch, to be considerate of the local facilities and accommodations during the upcoming period.
The upcoming Oscars event is still set to take place on Sunday, March 2nd, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood’s Ovation complex.
