Julia Garner arrives at the Bramford in official trailer for Apartment 7A, a prequel to Rosemary’s Baby
As a horror enthusiast who has spent countless sleepless nights immersed in the darkest corners of cinema, I can confidently say that September is shaping up to be a chilling month for fans like myself. The upcoming prequel, “Apartment 7A”, promises to delve deeper into the unsettling world of Rosemary’s Baby, a tale that has sent shivers down my spine since I first watched it on a stormy night many years ago.
2022 has been quite eventful for disturbing birth scenes in the horror genre, a development that’s not unexpected following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. It seems 2024 still holds some surprises for us. One of the most well-known tales of horror movie pregnancies is set to receive a prequel this September on Paramount+, and they’ve just unveiled the official trailer!
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share some intriguing insights about a captivating prequel titled “Apartment 7A”. This compelling narrative unfolds in 1965, just prior to the Woodhouse couple settling into the Bramford, as depicted in the iconic 1968 movie, “Rosemary’s Baby”. Although it shares some familiar faces, such as the enigmatic and eerie Castevets – this time portrayed by the Academy Award-winning actress Dianne Wiest and Kevin McNally. Joining them is Julia Garner, a Golden Globe winner, who breathes life into Terry Gionoffrio, a character whose fate in the original film was left off-screen.
Before Rosemary, it was Terry who existed, and the trailer hints at another woman preceding Terry. Over the years, it appears that the Castevets were determined to give birth to the offspring of Satan.
In a different yet clear rendition: Terry ultimately suffers a disastrous fate, as predicted by the movie, however, Apartment 7A delves into her backstory and offers a fresh perspective on a classic horror saga. I believe it’s clever that the filmmakers opted to portray a tale happening prior to the movie, considering numerous attempts to produce a successful sequel have failed. Even Ira Levin, who penned the original novel that the 1968 film was adapted from, attempted a sequel book; unfortunately, it didn’t gain the same acclaim as its predecessor.
In the trailer you can see, Terry is a gifted dancer who faces the possibility of her career ending due to a severe injury, which leads her into drug addiction. With her professional aspirations hanging by a thread, she feels grateful when a well-off pair shows interest in her and offers her the chance to reside in an apartment within the Bramford building.
1. They promise to assist in her healing process and also arrange a meeting with a Broadway producer named Jim Sturgess. However, when Terry experiences a sudden loss of memory about the previous night and strange occurrences happening inside the Bramford, she comes to understand that some ominous events are unfolding within this building.
In a creative twist, I’m excited to share that I, as a passionate film enthusiast, am particularly looking forward to “Apartment 7A.” This chilling tale is skillfully directed by Natalie Erika James, who previously impressed us with her work on “Relic.” The screenplay for this suspenseful journey has been collaboratively crafted by James, Christian White, and Skylar James. Remarkably, it’s Skylar James who initially conceived the intriguing screen story. An impressive ensemble cast graces this production, featuring Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (upcoming “Wonka”), Marli Siu (“Everything I Know About Love”), Rosy McEwen (“Blue Jean”), and Andrew Buchan (“All the Money in the World”).
Paramount unveiled some fresh images together with the trailer, offering glimpses into the appearances of characters such as Terry, Minnie, and Roman.
Starting this Friday, September 27, in the US, Canada, Latin America, Brazil, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Australia, Apartment 7A will make its exclusive debut on Paramount+. On September 28, it will be available in more markets to be announced later. Simultaneously, on the same day, you can purchase the film digitally.
