Julia Garner and Matthew Macfadyen’s compelling must-see drama has just been added to Prime Video

Julia Garner and Matthew Macfadyen’s compelling drama The Assistant has been added to Prime Video.

The film, initially released in 2019, centers around an up-and-coming assistant to a high-ranking executive within a movie studio, who gradually uncovers the regular mistreatment happening within the company.

Prime Video users in the UK and Ireland can now watch the film from today.

In our initial review, Digital Spy described the film as “thought-provoking,” further commenting: “Even if a movie manages to shift your perspective, it must also remain captivating to keep viewers hooked.

The Assistant skillfully accomplishes both tasks, avoiding the overly dramatic tone often associated with crucial or significant communications.

The film “The Assistant” was crafted by Kitty Green, who served as the writer, director, and co-editor. The cast includes Makenzie Leigh from “Gotham”, Kristine Froseth from “The Buccaneers”, Alexander Chaplin from “Elementary”, Juliana Canfield from “American Horror Story”, and Dagmara Domińczyk from “Succession”.

In a conversation from 2020, Green shared with us the sources of her film’s inspiration. She mentioned the Me Too movement and the court case involving Harvey Weinstein as significant influences.

She shared that it appeared as though the media’s attention was excessively centered on the males, and the notion that by eliminating these two problematic individuals, all issues would magically resolve themselves.

As a passionate advocate, I pondered over crafting a film that delves deeply into the intricate systems that hinder women from wielding power, rather than merely focusing on the predators themselves.

As a thrilled fan, I’m excited to share that the talented actor Garner, fresh from his role in “Wolf Man,” is set to grace our screens once more, this time in the upcoming Marvel epic, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” In this exciting new venture, he will embody the enigmatic characters of Shalla-Bal and Silver Surfer.

Macfadyen’s latest project is Prime Video movie Holland, in which he stars alongside Nicole Kidman.

The Assistant is available to stream now on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.
