I’ve been following the buzz around Jujutsu Kaisen for a while now, and it’s exciting to hear that the third season is finally coming in January 2026! With the manga finishing up in 2024 after a great run of 271 chapters, it seems likely we’ll get at least two more seasons of the anime. If we’re lucky, maybe even a movie that does as well as Demon Slayer or Chainsaw Man in theaters. Even with so many amazing anime series coming out these days, Jujutsu Kaisen really stands out. It’s become incredibly popular worldwide, and for good reason – the characters are really well-developed, and the unique way magic and power work in the series is just captivating.
The Jujutsu Kaisen manga had some major flaws. While the rest of the anime adaptation might be able to work around some of these, certain key story elements are unchangeable without completely rewriting the plot. However, the new sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, offers a chance to address these issues. Even with just ten chapters released so far, JJK Modulo has established itself as a strong continuation of the story, boasting impressive artwork that any fan of shonen manga should check out.
Jujutsu Kaisen Failed Nobara Kugisaki & Megumi Fushiguro

A major problem with Jujutsu Kaisen is how several character arcs felt incomplete or unsatisfying. While Yuji Itadori’s story reached a conclusion, it didn’t fully deliver for fans. Nobara Kugisaki was sidelined during a crucial event and only reappeared briefly at the very end to contribute one final blow. Despite her promising introduction and development, she felt underutilized throughout the series. Megumi Fushiguro fares even worse, as he’s possessed and left unable to act, essentially becoming a character who needs to be rescued.
Unlike the original series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo consistently focuses on its two main characters, Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu – the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. The story gives both siblings equal attention, with Tsurugi wanting to emulate her grandmother and Yuka looking up to his grandfather. Even the introduction of the alien Simurians doesn’t shift this focus; in fact, a character named Maru helps Yuka and Tsurugi grow even closer. After just ten chapters, it’s clear that both siblings will be central to the story. Hopefully, this sequel will also give some neglected characters from JJK, like Panda (who is still alive in 2086), a chance to have their stories concluded.
Jujutsu Kaisen Left Major Plot Holes for JJK Modulo to Fill
Jujutsu Kaisen excels at exploring the emotional and moral sides of its characters. The anime thoughtfully examines past relationships, like that of Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, and delves into big life questions through characters like Yuji Itadori. Even the villain, Sukuna, experiences a moment of self-reflection. However, the series doesn’t fully explore the broader societal and political issues it introduces. For example, why is cursed energy exclusive to Japan, considering it’s fueled by universal negative feelings? The story also leaves unanswered questions about the extent of corruption within the Jujutsu organization, the ethics of killing curse users, and what happened with the United States government. These larger themes remain largely unexplored despite being hinted at throughout the manga.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo addresses a missing element from the original series by focusing on the complex relationship between Japan’s jujutsu practitioners and the Simurians, an alien race seeking refuge on Earth. These aliens fled their home planet after facing severe discrimination and hardship, and recent chapters have revealed them to be generally well-intentioned, though understandably cautious. Yuka and Tsurugi are beginning to trust Maru, which could allow them to advocate for the Simurians, while some Simurians are worried about humanity’s tendency to dismiss those who are different. Overall, JJK Modulo strives for a balance between exploring important themes and telling a compelling story – a narrative balance that was less present in the original Jujutsu Kaisen.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Power System is Too Hard to Understand
Fans are really looking forward to Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen, and one big reason is that the anime makes the complex details of the story easier to follow. While the manga’s creator, Gege Akutami, is a talented artist and storyteller, the explanations of how Jujutsu works can be confusing. The manga often includes lengthy, detailed descriptions that slow down the story. Even after reading multiple times, some of the techniques used in the Culling Game remain unclear, and attacks are often explained with pages of dense text. Fans want to understand Jujutsu sorcery, but the manga actually makes it more difficult to do so.
Luckily, JJK Modulo focuses on showing, not telling. While there are unusual abilities – like the powers of the enigmatic “shark-man” and the Simurian – most are left to the viewer’s interpretation. Tsurugi’s Batto Sword Drawing technique was already established in Jujutsu Kaisen, and his cursed tool, Honoyagi, adds to the series’ world without becoming overly complicated. Yuka’s Savage Jaw Strike is also straightforward and easy to understand. There’s just one remaining element that needs clarification, and it will probably be explained before Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo ends.
Jujutsu Kaisen Killed the Manga’s Ending With Bad Pacing
One of the biggest weaknesses of Jujutsu Kaisen was how the story ended. While the fights between Sukuna and characters like Gojo, Yuta, Maki, and Yuji were exciting and showed impressive power-ups for everyone involved, the final battle felt rushed. Each fight leading up to the end built tension and showed characters growing stronger, with Maki even managing to genuinely challenge Sukuna, and Yuta skillfully using Gojo’s abilities. However, the manga quickly sped through the final showdown, which undermined the careful pacing the story had established previously.
These issues likely stemmed from the pressure to publish on a strict schedule, potentially one Akutami hadn’t initially intended. He has stated that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo will last six months and consist of three volumes. Considering past JJK volumes typically contained 8-10 chapters, the sequel has just completed its first volume. With two more story arcs planned, there’s ample opportunity to adjust the story’s pace and ensure a complete narrative. However, the biggest reveal is the introduction of a character who is hinted to be the most powerful Jujutsu sorcerer. Given that Yuji’s outlook on life and hope were crucial in defeating Sukuna, fans are excited to see how this former protagonist will impact the new challenges presented by Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
JJK Modulo is the Last Chance to See Yuji’s Domain Expansion
When the Simurians arrived at Earth, hoping to find a suitable place to live alongside people they considered equals, it triggered a crisis in Japan. These beings possess dangerous energy similar to that of Jujutsu sorcerers, along with many other unique abilities, making them a potential threat to humanity. This concern was reinforced by the arrival of Dabura, a powerful but peaceful giant who is said to be as strong as Sukuna. While Dabura prefers not to fight, he still represents a danger to the Jujutsu world in 2086. With Satoru Gojo, Yuta Okkotsu, and Maki Zenin all gone, Japan is vulnerable, and the Jujutsu Headquarters is desperately searching for a way to restore their defenses.
Beyond where Yuji Itadori is and what he’s doing, fans are also incredibly curious about his unique ability, Domain Expansion. This power wasn’t fully explained in Jujutsu Kaisen, which confused viewers when Yuji used it to show Sukuna around his hometown. While many believe Yuji’s Domain Expansion is the opposite of another character’s, that hasn’t been officially confirmed. Because of this, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is a great opportunity for Yuji to return and demonstrate how much stronger he’s become over the years, and his Domain Expansion is the perfect way to showcase that growth. Ultimately, fans are eager to see Yuji fight someone – even just a quick battle against Mahito – to prove his power.
