It’s been a while since a new Judi Dench film has graced our screens, but we’ve found a fantastic one for you to watch tonight and witness her exceptional acting skills!
In the year 2000, Joan Stanley, portrayed by Judi Dench, finds herself peacefully retired. However, her tranquil existence is shattered as MI5 accuses her of sharing intelligence with Communist Russia, causing an unexpected upheaval in her life.
The suspenseful spy novel alternates between the years 2000 and 1938, portraying Sophie Cookson’s character Joan as a physicist at Cambridge University. She becomes romantically entangled with young communist Leo Galich (Tom Hughes), a decision that eventually forces her to confront a difficult choice: either betray her nation and loved ones, or risk everything to protect them.
If you’re interested in watching it or simply want to see it again, Red Joan is broadcasting tonight at 11:05 PM on BBC Two.
It seems like the screening of “Red Joan” might have passed by for tonight, even on a Friday, but there’s no need to fret! You can still catch it on BBC iPlayer after its airing, so you can enjoy watching it over the weekend instead.

If you can’t wait to watch Red Joan, it’s also available to watch right now on Prime Video.
The film “Red Joan” is adapted from a novel sharing the same title, penned by Jennie Rooney. This book was influenced by the real-life story of Melita Norwood.
In the 1930s, while working as a secretary at the British Non-Ferrous Metals Research Association, Norwood shared nuclear secrets with the Soviet Union.
This espionage-themed movie features actors like Stephen Campbell Moore, Ben Miles, Nina Sosanya, Tereza Srbova, and Laurence Spellman. It is the work of director Trevor Nunn, who brought it to life from a script written by Lindsay Shapero.

This year, Dench shared that she frequently has concerns about going to events because of her worsening vision. As she put it, “I’ll always have someone with me.
I must stay here because I can’t see, so I might run into something or trip. I’m always anxious before attending events. I don’t know why… I struggle being alone entirely, and I wouldn’t want to be now.
Tonight at 11:05 PM, the movie “Red Joan” is set to air on BBC Two. You can catch it there, or you’ll soon be able to stream it on BBC iPlayer following its initial broadcast.
