Judgment Day carried WWE Raw for two years

As a passionate WWE fan who’s witnessed the rise and fall of numerous factions, I can confidently say that The Judgement Day has left an indelible mark on Monday Night Raw. Their two-year reign atop the brand is a testament to their resilience, charisma, and sheer determination.

For quite some time now, we’ve been expecting turbulence within the Judgement Day event. Over the past year or so, hints have been dropped about potential changes, but at present, this faction has controlled WWE Raw for a continuous period of two years. Edge established his new alliance back in April 2022, which was quickly followed by the addition of Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley. Initially, The Judgement Day failed to resonate with the WWE audience, leading to a lack of response from the fans. To generate interest and excitement within the group, something surprising needed to take place, and that turned out to be Finn Balor’s arrival.

Right from the start, it was clear that The Judgement Day’s conclusion would hinge on a confrontation between Balor and Priest. When Balor managed to keep Edge down, for a brief moment, he took charge. Initially, it was expected that the growing egos of the two or one outgrowing the group would lead to its downfall. As excitement built with Balor’s arrival, everything culminated when Dominik Mysterio turned against his father to join the faction and ascend to the position of top heel across the entire company, and arguably in all of professional wrestling.

Tonight’s Clash at the Castle event significantly altered the course of events for the following two years on Monday Night Raw. Immediately, Judgement Day became the most detested faction in the brand. It wasn’t until Dominik Mysterio joined their ranks that fans had a genuine motive to despise them.

For a span of two years, the dynamic on-screen partnership between Rhea Ripley and Dirty Dom dominated the screen. Meanwhile, Mysterio claimed his initial singles title by capturing the NXT North American Championship, a title he held twice. Contrarily, in an unprecedented manner, Ripley won the 2023 Women’s Royal Rumble, a triumph that later led her to defeating Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 39, earning the WWE Women’s World Championship.

In a similar vein, on Monday Night Raw, The Judgement Day rose to become the dominant powerhouse. Unbeknownst to us, this was merely the start of their reign. Fast forward to some months later, Damian Priest secured the Money In The Bank contract, and soon after, he and Balor ousted Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn from their Undisputed Tag Team Championship titles at WWE Payback. The stable’s words resounded powerfully that night: “The Judgement Day controls WWE,” Priest declared. “And let that be clear,” Mysterio echoed.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly for them until Priest seized the opportunity at WrestleMania 40 by cashing-in his Money In The Bank contract, pinning Drew McIntyre in the process. This event marked the start of the decline for that period known as The Judgement Day. Ripley had previously hurt her shoulder and was forced to relinquish her title, Mysterio had already lost the NXT North American championship, and the group encountered some unexpected new members in JD McDonagh and Carlito.

Over the course of two years, The Judgement Day group’s management of Monday Night Raw has solidified their place as one of WWE’s greatest factions ever. Now, with a fresh appearance and renewed energy, the faction is showing signs of a revival, led by the new Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan who has replaced Ripley. Since joining the group, Liv has assisted Balor and McDonagh in reclaiming the World Tag Team titles, Mysterio was able to defeat his legendary father for the first time, and most notably, she defended her title against Ripley at SummerSlam.

Over time, it’s crucial to give credit to WWE for the success they’ve achieved with The Judgment Day, even after a somewhat sluggish beginning two years ago. It’s challenging to envision how Monday Night Raw would look without The Judgment Day. Rise up, for The Judgment Day!
