Judge Mathis star Greg Mathis heading to divorce court after wife Linda files to legally split after 39 years of marriage
As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for resilience and the human spirit, I must say that Judge Mathis‘ 39-year marriage coming to an end is certainly a poignant moment in his life journey. Despite this personal setback, it’s essential to remember that every chapter of our lives, whether joyful or challenging, shapes us into the individuals we become.
As a long-time admirer of Judge Mathis and his inspiring wisdom, it’s deeply saddening to learn that he and his wife Linda are contemplating divorce after three decades of marriage. Having watched their relationship unfold on and off the court, I always felt they exemplified love, understanding, and mutual respect. Their decision to part ways is undeniably heart-wrenching, especially for someone like me who has looked up to them as a model couple.
In June 1985, a 64-year-old TV mediator named Linda and her partner ended their marriage, citing irreconcilable differences, as reported in an article published on Thursday by TMZ.
Linda listed their date of separation as July 17, according to court documents.
Greg and Linda have two adult daughters and two adult sons.
In her filing, Linda requested alimony and further sought to prevent the court from granting spousal support to Greg.
It was unclear if a prenuptial agreement was involved.
Greg starred on the TV court show Judge Mathis for 24 seasons from 1999 to 2023.
Until its final episode in 2023, Judge Mathis held the title as the longest-running active court show following the conclusion of Judge Judy’s run in July 2021 after 25 seasons.
The Detroit native later starred in the E! series Mathis Family Matters.
Greg and Linda are both alumnus of Eastern Michigan University.
The courtroom show host was honored in May 2022 with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Greg attended the unveiling of the star, and his chest swelled with pride as he received the accolade.
At the event, Linda also showed up, along with Magic Johnson and Johnny Gill. They all seemed thrilled about their friend’s accomplishment.
The television personality was honored for his philanthropic efforts during the ceremony.
The Judge Mathis team won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program in 2018.
During an interview with Variety in 2022, Judge Mathis discussed his career and emphasized that he could establish a more profound connection with the participants appearing on his show compared to numerous other legal professionals.
He stated, “I have a deep understanding for the struggles of those involved in legal disputes, as my experiences closely mirror those of many litigants who appear before me.”
Despite emphasizing that he primarily views television as a form of entertainment, he acknowledged that some individuals perceive him as someone who is both socially aware and fair to all communities.
In a straightforward manner, Judge Mathis conveyed his hope that the people appearing in court before him would achieve success in their future endeavors.
“He declared that his main goal in life is to motivate those who come after him to conquer their challenges.”
Afterward, the legal advisor pointed out that his program was intended to demonstrate a unique television production carrying a clearly uplifting theme.
He stated, “In the realm of entertainment, my goal is to offer content that will inspire and uplift the audience I aim to reach.”
