Jude Law’s underseen “grippingly intense” crime thriller becomes streaming hit
Jude Law’s 2024 film The Order has finally become a hit after being added to Prime Video last week.
The movie showcases the actor known for portraying Sherlock Holmes as an FBI officer pursuing a violent white supremacist gang active in 1980s United States. Alongside him are Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, and Jurnee Smollett, among other talented actors.
The movie garnered powerful praise, boasting a 92% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 148 reviews, with the critical consensus being: “Jude Law’s stoic performance and Nicholas Hoult’s chilling portrayal masterfully shape historical events in this grippingly intense roller coaster ride.
Although the film, The Order, has garnered much acclaim, its relatively low profile can be attributed to a restricted theater debut in December. However, on February 6th, it became available on Prime Video, and it appears to have since attracted a broader viewership.
As per the data from tracking site FlixPatrol, the movie presently holds the second spot in their list of most popular films, which ranks movies based on a scoring system known as ‘Popularity Points’ (further details can be found here).
2024 found Jude Law appearing in the Disney+ Star Wars series titled Skeleton Crew, a production that didn’t garner the same positive reception as The Order.
Digital Spy‘s review of the show can be rephrased as: “On paper, it’s an acceptable addition to the Star Wars series for younger fans and could serve as a good starting point for those unfamiliar with the details of the Star Wars Saga.
However, this lukewarm approval comes with a significant condition – essentially, every element in the work titled “Skeleton Crew” feels quite familiar as it has been depicted numerous times previously.
In the future, we can expect Law to portray Vladimir Putin in director Olivier Assayas’ forthcoming film, titled “The Wizard of the Kremlin“, which delves into the early stages of Putin’s professional life.
The Order is available for Prime Video subscribers to stream now.
