Joy Reid’s show canceled in programming shakeup at MSNBC
Joy Reid, the most outspoken host on progressive news channel MSNBC, is leaving the network.
Last week, it has been reported by sources close to the matter but not permitted to speak publicly, that Reid, who recently re-signed with the Comcast-owned channel, is set to air her last show this week.
An MSNBC representative declined comment on Reid’s status.
56-year-old Reid sometimes caused unease among Comcast executives due to her blunt criticisms of President Trump and his followers. Her departure may be perceived as yet another instance of television news organizations curbing reporters and pundits deemed critical of the Trump administration.
In a subtle move, CNN reassigned their daytime anchor, Jim Acosta, who’s known for his challenging interviews with President Trump, to the late-night shift. However, rather than accepting this change, Jim decided to part ways with CNN instead.
In 2014, I became a daytime host for MSNBC, and in 2020, I launched “The ReidOut” at the 7 p.m. Eastern time slot. Now, as I bid farewell to MSNBC, it marks a significant change under the new leadership of President Rebecca Kutler.
Under new ownership, MSNBC is being spearheaded by Kutler. This change comes as the network transitions to becoming a division of a freshly formed company that encompasses Comcast’s cable television channels. Notably, she stepped into this role after Rashida Jones departed from the network last month.

Is a significant shift towards digital media on the horizon? However, the question remains: Will consumers hold the CNN brand in high enough regard to subscribe to its online content?
On Reid’s upcoming show, a threesome of hosts – Michael Steele, Symone Sanders Townsend, and Alicia Menendez – will take over. These hosts have previously collaborated on the MSNBC program “The Weekend,” which first aired in January 2024.
Kutler created “The Weekend” during her tenure as executive vice president at MSNBC. Additionally, she intends to broaden the daily appearance of Jen Psaki, a former White House press secretary under President Biden, whose show is currently only on Sundays and Mondays.

Jennifer Psaki might step into the 9 PM Eastern Time segment when Rachel Maddow, MSNBC’s prominent host, is absent. Previously filling this role was Alex Wagner, who has been moved away from the regular schedule but will still be part of MSNBC as a correspondent.
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow has resumed her evening duties, focusing on the early stages of a potential second term for President Trump during its initial 100 days.
However, after Reid departs, the network could potentially face the backlash from her supporters and those on the progressive side of MSNBC.
