Josias Musasa is the DWCS Week 5 fighter to watch

As a die-hard MMA fan, I can’t help but feel electrified by the prospect of Josias Musasa making his UFC debut on Dana White’s Contender Series. This 7-0 knockout artist from Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo, has been tearing up the African combat scene and is now ready to take on the world.

The eighth season of Dana White’s Contender Series resumes on Tuesday, September 10, featuring aspiring fighters aiming for UFC contracts. So far, 17 UFC deals have been handed out, and with five bouts scheduled, this list is bound to expand. A total of ten contenders are fighting for a spot in the UFC on the September 10 episode of DWCS, but one fighter stands out: Josias Musasa.

Hailing from Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Musasa is famously referred to as ‘The K.O. Wizard’. Stepping into professional combat late in 2022, this is just his second year in the sport. With mixed martial arts being his primary style, Musasa has been a formidable presence on Africa’s fight scene. The division he frequently competes in, bantamweight, is renowned for its thrilling matches across the continent.

Musasa learns martial arts skills at the Elite Training Center, where Yadad Moser serves as head coach. This gym has been instrumental in launching successful careers of many African MMA fighters such as Jean-Jacques Lubaya, Juliet Ukah, Flex Munwe, and others. For Musasa, the path to fighting in the UFC Octagon at UFC APEX has been a significant milestone.

In the thrilling world of combat sports, I made my professional debut at Impact Championship 1 in November 2022. The fight lasted barely a minute – just 49 seconds, to be precise – as I secured a spectacular first-round knockout.

In May 2023, the first AKO Championship took place, and Musasa scored a TKO win in the second round. Interestingly, this was the first time Musasa had ever advanced past the initial round. After approximately nine months of absence, Musasa stepped back into the cage at Nightmare FC 6 in February 2024. During this event, he secured an impressive 19-second knockout victory, achieving his quickest career finish to date.

Making his comeback in March at AKO 3 tournament, Musasa, who was the main act, continued to impress with another spectacular TKO victory, this time only 1 minute and 45 seconds into the bout. Later in June, Musasa competed at Impact Championship 3 event and clinched another win following a powerful first-round knee strike.

Currently, Musasa has never advanced to the third round in any of his professional bouts and is known for his powerful knockout abilities. With a perfect 7-0 record, Musasa received an invitation from the UFC, an opportunity that could significantly alter the course of his entire professional career. This chance would materialize on Dana White’s Contender Series, scheduled for Tuesday, September 10.

Josias Musasa hopes to join the UFC’s buzzing bantamweight division

Funny enough, I find myself standing on the brink of the UFC Octagon with a UFC contract hanging in the balance, all while the bantamweight division takes center stage at UFC 306 – also known as Riyadh Season Noche UFC. Sean O’Malley is set to defend his featherweight title against Merab Dvalishvili in this highly-anticipated event. This moment presents a fantastic opportunity for me to make my mark in the UFC’s bantamweight division.

In their upcoming DWCS bout, Musasa’s adversary will be Otar Tanzilov, who also remains undefeated with a record of 9-0. As both fighters are unbeaten, this contest promises to break the winning streak of one of these promising talents. For Musasa, this fight represents an opportunity to seal a contract with the world’s leading promotion, less than two years into his professional journey, and he will be determined to make the most of it. Moreover, since the fight is scheduled just a month before his 26th birthday, Musasa may view this as an early gift for himself.
