Joshua Allen of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ fame struck and killed by a train in Texas

Joshua Allen, the winner of season four of So You Think You Can Dance, tragically passed away after being hit by a train in Fort Worth. More details are available here.

According to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office, Allen passed away early Tuesday morning at a hospital nearby. The official determination of how and why he died is still being investigated, the office reports. Allen was 36 years old.

Around 1 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to railroad tracks at the corner of Millbrook Lane and Nuffield Lane, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. They found a man, identified as Allen, who had been hit by a train. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died, police said. Police didn’t respond to a request for comment from The Times as of Wednesday.

Christina Price, the lawyer for Allen, also verified his passing. In a statement, she shared that “Joshua’s most remarkable quality was his kindness and compassion.”

Television

Stephen ‘Twitch’ Boss, who gained fame as a reality TV personality and DJ’d on the popular ‘Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ passed away on Tuesday.

“He was a naturally gifted mover – he hadn’t had any formal training, but could pick up any movement after seeing it just once,” Price explained. Beyond his skill, he also dedicated his time to helping others, teaching dance workshops to children in Texas.”

A family member of Allen confirmed to TMZ, who first reported the news, that he had passed away. The family member didn’t share details about how he died and requested that fans respect their privacy and offer prayers.

The dancer from Texas tried out for “So You Think You Can Dance” in 2008. The judges were very impressed by his smooth, flowing style, precise popping and locking, and energetic jumps. He showed throughout the competition that he could master many different types of dance, including contemporary and even Bollywood. He consistently performed well and ultimately won the grand prize over the other dancers.

Allen triumphed over Stephen “Twitch” Boss, who tragically passed away by suicide in December 2022. Boss was 40 years old. Allen expressed his grief on Instagram, stating, “NO WORDS will ever be enough to explain the LOVE I have for you Stephen.” He also remembered first meeting Boss before their auditions, writing, “This isn’t goodbye more so I’ll see you later.”

Hollywood Inc.

Bob Broder, a co-founder of the Broder Kurland Agency, was a well-known representative of Hollywood stars. He worked with people like Chuck Lorre and television director James Burrows.

As someone who followed the case, hearing from Price, who also represented Boss, really struck me. He said Allen was deeply affected by Boss’s death, and now, to be mourning Joshua as well… it’s just heartbreaking, as he put it. It feels like a truly awful situation for everyone involved.

Following his time on “So You Think You Can Dance,” Allen worked on a variety of projects. These included a McDonald’s commercial, a part in the first season of “American Horror Story,” and roles in the films “Freak Dance” and “Step Up 3D,” as well as the 2011 remake of Footloose, according to IMDb. He also shared his expertise as an instructor at multiple dance competitions.

In the summer of 2016, Allen was involved in legal issues after being accused of assaulting his girlfriend at a coffee shop. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles County district attorney charged him with two felonies for intentionally harming his girlfriend, one felony count of assault with a weapon, and four misdemeanors involving battery, property damage, and breaking a restraining order. Allen was set to be a mentor on Season 13 of “SYTYCD,” but the show’s host, Cat Deeley, announced his exit during a live broadcast due to the domestic violence allegations.

He pleaded no contest in August 2016 and was sentenced to one year in jail.
