Joshua Allen – who won season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance – has passed away at 36.
The professional dancer passed away on Tuesday, September 30th. A family member has chosen not to share details with TMZ regarding the circumstances of his death.
That same family member asked fans for ‘privacy and prayers.’
DailyMail.com has reached out to representatives for Allen and has yet to hear back.
A friend of the late dancer, Emmanuel Hurd, described him to the publication as ‘a very honest, real person.’
Hurd also told TMZ, ‘He didn’t always follow the conventional path, but that’s what made him successful.’

He is best known for winning the reality dancing competition show in 2008.
Oh my gosh, you won’t *believe* this! Allen totally charmed Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss – the runner-up! – and they actually became really good friends. I’m seriously so happy for Allen! It’s amazing to see him connect with someone like tWitch, who I totally admire. It just proves how awesome Allen is!
Stephen Boss – who later worked as a DJ and executive producer for The Ellen DeGeneres Show – tragically died by suicide in December 2022 at the age of 40.
Allen first tried out for SYTYCD in Dallas, Texas. He auditioned alongside his friend and another contestant, Comfort Fedoke.
He ultimately was crowned on August 7, 2008 and earned the cash prize of $250,000.
Following his win, he shared that he hadn’t actually received any formal dance training growing up, but he had practiced a little bit before his audition.
Allen shared with Entertainment Weekly: ‘I wanted to improve my dancing, so I tried some new things – I took a few modern and ballet classes. I felt that exploring different styles would broaden my understanding of dance and make me a better performer.’
‘I didn’t want to audition for the show not knowing anything.’
He did really well at his audition, and then had several months before he needed to move to Las Vegas for the live performances. He used that time wisely, saying he took ‘as many classes as I could,’ and it definitely helped him succeed.
He explained that he didn’t have extensive technical training. He made an effort to take courses during the summer, and during the school year, he balanced classes with both track and football.
‘I would always just train in the summer. So it was never hard training.’
