Josh Widdicombe side-steps Strictly Come Dancing host question live on Good Morning Britain

There’s been a lot of talk recently about who will host the next season of Strictly Come Dancing. Comedian Josh Widdicombe and presenter Emma Willis are both potential replacements for current hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, and many wonder if they could be the new team to guide us through the competition on Saturday nights.

The well-known comedian and star of Taskmaster has suggested the rumors circulating about him aren’t true, advising fans: “Don’t believe everything you read in the newspapers.”

On today’s Good Morning Britain, hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls pressed comedian Josh Widdicombe about a rumor. The discussion became so lively that Susanna even told Ed to be quiet so they could get to the truth.

But the Last Leg host seemed to do his best to remain non-committal and side-step the subject.

He admitted he was pleased to be considered for the position, but didn’t say much more. He joked that even being mentioned in connection with Strictly Come Dancing looks good, and expressed confidence he’d be great at it.

Josh then described the qualities he’d want in actors for the roles, suggesting that Susanna and Ed would be a perfect fit. However, Susanna immediately clarified that no one had actually asked them to audition.

Okay, so I saw that Fleur East, who’s great on It Takes Two, said she wasn’t going to be the new main host. She admitted she was a little bummed about not getting the job, but then quickly said the role went to the person who deserved it – and everyone’s saying that’s Emma Willis, so I guess that’s who it is!

Zoe Ball, a radio host who previously presented It Takes Two, has also announced she won’t be taking on the new hosting role.

Ball explained on her podcast, Dig It, that while she was disappointed, she was processing the situation. She told Jo Whiley (according to The Sun) that she’d gone through the stages of grief and acceptance in the days since.

The BBC hasn’t announced who will replace Tess and Claudia on Strictly Come Dancing yet. They’ve responded to all the speculation by saying that plans for the 2026 series will be revealed later.
