Josh Peck Reveals Shocking Discovery About Drake Bell’s Abuse

Josh Peck recently revealed when he discovered that his costar, Drake Bell, had experienced abuse at the hands of producer and director Brian Peck.

On Monday, the actors from Drake & Josh came together again for an episode of Drake’s Good Guys podcast. During their conversation, they discussed a forthcoming 2024 documentary titled “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV,” which is when Drake first revealed his experiences with abuse.

During a chat reminiscing about their past friendship as teenagers, it emerged that Josh, who is now 38 years old, confessed then that he had a sense or intuition that some incident might have occurred when Brian was no longer present on the movie set.

As a die-hard fan, let me share a tidbit from the past – that pivotal moment when the gap appeared between Drake & Josh and The Amanda Show, I was the one who filled in my mom about the behind-the-scenes action. Yep, I’m 38 now, but that memory still feels fresh as ever!

During that time, we visited the police station. An investigation, similar to what you witnessed in the documentary, took place then.

In reference to Drake & Josh, he went on to say: ‘During the filming of the pilot, an investigation was ongoing, yet no one was aware of it since Brian hadn’t been apprehended.’

As I found myself stepping away from The Amanda Show, it was disheartening to be confronted with an environment that felt more like a stormy ocean than the calm harbor I had once known. The disturbing incidents were like dark clouds looming over my once-happy sanctuary. The most distressing aspect of this situation was the realization that the very place where I sought safety and refuge, had become home to a beast that threatened my peace.

The one spot where I truly relax is when I can join you all, engage in silly antics, don masks, wigs, and makeup, bring joy to others, playfully slither about, and get messy together.

He expressed that it’s a place where he feels secure, yet it’s unfortunate because his home isn’t such a place for him. He clarified, though there were no abusive parents involved, still, the environment where he felt most comfortable and was the happiest was when he was working on set with you all.

Day after day, as I arrived, there it stood – the monstrous entity. It seemed preposterous, yet true. Remarkably, it had evaded arrest. So, every day, I encountered this elusive creature during our pilot program.

So, he’s returning now, and it seems like they haven’t taken him into custody yet. You may recall that he stopped by during our initial filming, which caused some trouble, but I had to pretend not to notice, since he was about to be apprehended and didn’t realize it himself.

Drake stated, “It was clear that trouble was imminent, and no one else seemed aware of it. I was around 14 or 15 years old at the time.

After that, Josh expressed: “I had a pang of regret because, until you enlightened me about the situation, I was merely viewing it from the perspective of a 14-year-old, thinking, ‘oh no, he seems to avoid me.’

At 14, I hadn’t yet grasped the significance of having a supportive network during challenging times, but looking back now, I can see how crucial it was that everyone who knew you had rallied around you. You truly deserved and needed all the support they could offer. It’s a lesson I wish I’d learned earlier in life.

Later, when I watched the documentary at age 38, I found myself reflecting not only as an adult but also as a parent. So many aspects of your journey became clear to me, and it’s hard for me to fathom what you endured,” he added.

In the latter part of the podcast, he remarked about Brian’s sudden disappearance, saying, “He was missing, and all I knew was that I sensed something must have occurred.

Additionally, it brings back memories when I recall that we were in the vehicle, and I asked, “Are you still in touch with Brian?”, to which you responded with an expression that clearly implied, “I don’t associate with Brian anymore, as he is quite unsavory.

Additionally, I recalled thinking, “Got it,” and that was sufficient information for me. I knew nothing beyond that, but I felt, “I understand now, got it.

Drake revealed that he didn’t want to tell Josh initially because they were ‘so close.’

It appears that several months had passed since then when I received a text from a colleague connected with the production, informing me, “Brian has been arrested and is heading to prison.

However, looking back with a more mature perspective, I now recognize that in my teenage mind, I reacted impulsively, thinking something like, “Thank goodness, he’ll be jailed, that’s good.” But watching the documentary made me question, “What about your own suffering? What about the trauma you experienced?

The situation is far more complex and disturbing than it appears; it’s not as simple as thinking ‘he went to prison, so everything’s fine now.’

Brian was arrested on August 19, 2003, for lewd conduct with a minor, charged with 11 counts.

However, it was only on the Investigation Discovery documentary series titled “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV,” broadcasted in March 2024, that Drake’s identity as the victim came to light.

Brian chose not to contest two accusations, instead accepting the court’s verdict which included a 16-month jail term. Later, he was mandated by the court to register as a lifelong sex offender.
