Josh Hartnett’s wildly entertaining Fight or Flight is a must-see for action fans
Approximately twelve months ago, Sky Cinema made available the action-packed film “The Beekeeper,” a production starring Jason Statham. This movie was true to form for any Statham production, as it showcased a former assassin transformed into a beekeeper, seeking retribution in typical Statham style.
2025 looks promising for action enthusiasts like me, as I’m all geared up to dive into Sky’s latest offering, “Fight or Flight.” This exhilarating, blood-pumping game puts me in the shoes of Josh Hartnett on a deadly flight, where I’ll be wielding a chainsaw for an unforgettable adventure. Buckle up, it’s going to be one heck of a wild ride!
If the description doesn’t pique your interest in watching the movie, then it might not be suitable for you. However, if it does spark curiosity, know that Fight or Flight is definitely worth watching for fans of films like John Wick and The Raid.

In typical fashion of high-action films, Lucas Reyes (portrayed by Hartnett) isn’t your average individual stuck in a complicated predicament. Instead, he’s an ex-Secret Service agent turned mercenary, who has eluded authorities for quite some time.
In a second chance scenario, Lucas is asked by his ex-boss and past lover, Katherine Brunt (Katee Sackhoff), for assistance. The target they’re after, referred to as The Ghost, is on an airplane. However, this flight carries numerous assassins aiming to kill The Ghost for the reward. The challenge lies in Lucas locating and apprehending them amidst a sea of potential threats.
The movie kicks off with an unrelenting pace, and after about 20 minutes of establishing the plot, it dives straight into its first intense fight scene. It’s during Lucas’s battle against Cayenne, a hopeful dancer turned assassin portrayed by Marko Zaror, that you understand you’re in capable hands. The fight is well-choreographed and easy to follow, leading to a grisly finale where one of the characters meets a grim end.
Looking at the camera, it becomes clear why – the cinematographer is Matt Flannery, known for his work on shows like “The Raid” and “Gangs of London”. The fight choreography, meanwhile, is by Brahim Chab, who contributed to the impressive “Monkey Man” last year. They excel at crafting fight scenes where the action speaks for itself, rather than relying on fast, confusing editing.
In the heated final battle where anything can happen, even with the chainsaw, Fight or Flight creatively employs the scant armaments available on board. Lucas resorts to unconventional weapons like a champagne flute and seatbelt to fend off attackers, resulting in imaginative and exciting hand-to-hand combat scenarios.
Besides mastering his stunt skills, Hartnett also gets the chance to display his humorous side. Whether under the influence of toad venom or arguing with flight attendant Isha (Charithra Chandran from Bridgerton, who equally excels in action scenes), it’s as enjoyable as we’ve ever seen Hartnett in a role, surpassing last year’s Trap performance.
This movie bears a strong resemblance to films like John Wick and The Raid in terms of action sequences, but it has a more lighthearted, playful tone. Importantly, the actors and filmmakers are aware of this and present it with appropriate humor, so while there may be some unintentional comedic moments, it’s mostly over-the-top in a fun and entertaining way.
Similar to the Sky original series The Beekeeper, Fight or Flight isn’t without its flaws, and it wouldn’t take much effort to find areas for improvement. For instance, a rather forced ‘heavy’ plot point about slave labor is awkwardly introduced, while the company that Lucas takes on a job from feels incredibly commonplace – until an unexpected twist that’s so ludicrous you can’t help but appreciate it.
However, when the movie incorporates Katee Sackhoff delivering humorous lines such as “Are you saying that plane is filled with assassins?” and “Begin tormenting the vet, if you will,” in the same scene, it becomes evident that intricate storylines are not a major concern for viewers.
The “Fight or Flight” experience offers a thrilling, sometimes excessively violent, joyride for action enthusiasts.
Fight or Flight is available to watch on Sky Cinema from February 28.
