Josh Gad recalls unusual encounter with bathrobe-clad Jeff Goldblum

As a dedicated follower of Hollywood stories, I must confess that hearing Josh Gad’s tale about his first encounter with Jeff Goldblum has left me utterly spellbound and somewhat envious. It is not every day that one gets to meet a legendary actor like Goldblum in such an unconventional manner!

Growing up, I dreamt of living the Hollywood life, but my experiences were more akin to driving a beat-up old car through the winding streets of Los Angeles, hoping to catch a glimpse of a famous face. In stark contrast, Gad’s tale transports us to an extraordinary world where Greek gods and Hollywood royalty coexist in Mount Olympus, a place I can only imagine from watching movies.

What makes this story even more intriguing is the fact that Gad was just 23 years old at the time, still finding his way in the city of dreams. The encounter with Goldblum must have felt like a surreal, welcome-to-Hollywood moment indeed! I can only imagine what it would be like to knock on a door and discover the eccentric genius himself, clad in a bathrobe, ready for an impromptu acting lesson.

The whole situation sounds like something out of a script, complete with Goldblum’s peculiar attire that was “pretty close to flashing” his private parts. I can’t help but chuckle at the absurdity of it all, and I can’t help but wonder if this is what they meant by “acting exercises.”

In the end, Gad’s experience serves as a reminder that Hollywood is full of unexpected twists and turns, and sometimes, you just have to go with the flow. I, for one, will be dreaming of my own surreal, welcome-to-Hollywood moment, where I’ll probably find myself in a room with Goldblum, bathrobe and all, practicing “the Meisner Technique.” Until then, I’ll keep living vicariously through stories like Gad’s!

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share my own account of an extraordinary encounter with the one and only Jeff Goldblum. It was every bit as eccentric as you might imagine! Picture this: my first meeting with him turned out to be a ‘surreal, Hollywood welcome’ moment when our new acquaintance almost had an… accidental reveal. Yes, you read that right!

43-year-old Gad discussed an uncommon experience during his chat on Kelly Ripa’s Behind the Scenes: Unscripted podcast, where he recounted stories from his initial years in the Hollywood scene.

Initially settling in a new location, a former college companion contacted him for a get-together with herself and her partner.

During my initial days in Los Angeles after college, a girl I knew from school offered me hospitality. She said something like, “Hi. I noticed you’re here. My partner and I would be delighted if you joined us tonight. If you don’t have any other plans, feel free to hang out with us.” So I agreed, saying, “That sounds great!

Nevertheless, Gad came to understand that this may not be an ordinary boyfriend, as he went on saying: ‘He resided in a genuine location named Mount Olympus. It’s not merely the dwelling place of Greek deities, but the residence of Hollywood deities.’

On a stormy evening, at the age of 23, I find myself behind the wheel. My thoughts wander, and I ponder, “Which lucky man claims her heart? This man dwells in a realm of legends, a mystical kingdom.

Approaching the residence, the actor from Love & Other Drugs remarked: ‘I find myself facing a colossal gate resembling those seen in Jurassic Park.’

Then, I come knocking at the door, only for my friend and her partner to answer dressed identically in bathrobes. Lo and behold, it’s none other than Jeff Goldblum himself.

He went on saying: ‘Upon entering, he greeted me with, “Ah, it’s nice to meet you, Josh.” To which I responded, “Nice to meet you too, I assume you are Jeff Goldblum. I recognize you from your professional endeavors.”‘

As the night grew more bizarre for the actor from The Book of Mormon, he unexpectedly engaged in acting drills alongside Goldblum, who was 73 years old, making it the most unbelievable night of his life.

He described their home as having an unusual, triangle-shaped seating setup, with the couple seated in plush armchairs on two sides, while he sat at the opposite end.

Gad went on to say: “Jeff initiated a game with me, using the Meisner Technique – a method called ‘call-and-repeat acting’. In this game, he would say certain words, and I was required to repeat them.

However, concentrating on the task wasn’t made easy due to Goldblum’s attire.

And he quipped, “It seemed to me that his groin area was almost exposed, but not quite.

In an unusual turn of events, I found myself being subtly encouraged to join Jeff Goldblum’s acting workshop. After a bizarre yet captivating conversation, he casually suggested, “Your talent is evident. You should consider sitting in on one of my classes.

And I found myself thinking, “Am I here to enroll Jeff Goldblum as my teacher in his Los Angeles acting workshop instead? What an unexpected, quintessentially Hollywood experience!

Gad noted: ‘I thought I was in an episode of Punk’d.’

Although he declined the opportunity to join the class, the actor was “delighted to receive a personal invite from Jeff Goldblum, while he was wearing a bathrobe at home.

It turns out that things have gone smoothly for Gad, who has savored his triumphs by lending his voice to characters in Frozen, A Dog’s Purpose, and the animated series, Central Park.

Additionally, he’s starred in popular movies like Beauty and the Beast, 21, Murder on the Orient Express, and Jobs elsewhere.

Goldblum is particularly well-known for playing characters in films such as Jurassic Park, The Big Chill, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Annie Hall.

The actor most recently portrayed The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in hit musical film, Wicked.
