Josh Alexander Will Fit Perfectly in the WWE
At TNA Genesis 2025 last week, a highly anticipated Match of the Night contender was an I Quit match that highlighted two key points. Firstly, Mike Santana is poised to become a cornerstone for TNA moving forward. Secondly, Josh Alexander appears ideally suited for the WWE. The feud between them wasn’t about titles or significant comebacks; the event itself was impressive, boasting such moments as well. Both men exuded star quality, and their contrasting energies captivated the fans at the Curtis Culwell Center, leaving them spellbound. They forged a magnetic bond in their roles. Although it may take more time for Santana to join the WWE, it was Alexander who quit in the match, which seems to signal his departure from the company. So, what unique qualities does Josh Alexander possess that could make him a valuable addition to the WWE Universe?
He has the height to back his technical competence.
In the world of WWE, while many characters remain active, their numbers have significantly decreased compared to earlier times. Most of these figures represent some form of “an athlete who embodies specific traits.” One key factor that sets wrestlers apart is their unique style, both in performances inside the ring and outside of it. While highflyers and powerhouses often grab attention due to their impressive displays within the WWE arena, there are quite a few of them. What’s been missing from WWE for a long time is a main-event contender with a technical wrestling style.
Modern wrestlers such as Josh Alexander are often compared to previous stars like Chad Gable, while earlier it was Dolph Ziggler (now known as Nic Nemeth in TNA). These athletes typically practice a submission and suplex-focused style, but often reach a point where they can no longer convincingly execute this style at the highest level due to their smaller size. Exceptions, like Bryan Danielson or CM Punk, made up for it by bringing an exceptional style outside the ring. However, Alexander doesn’t need to resort to that. He stands tall just like Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso, giving him the physical stature to match any top wrestlers on the main roster and appear as a credible equal.
He knows how to be Josh Alexander in any circumstance.
Josh Alexander would be an ideal addition to the WWE given his clear understanding of his performing identity. He has previously played the role of a valiant champion in TNA, and more recently, a self-righteous wrestling aficionado setting high standards for others. His face character was as captivating to TNA fans as what Cody is currently achieving, while his heel persona now mirrors what Gunther once embodied (and could continue to do so).
Mastering your character isn’t a simple task, but it is undoubtedly the most effective method to bypass NXT and leave an indelible mark on WWE. Penta El Zero M’s recent entrance into WWE serves as a testament to this fact. His cool demeanor during his debut was a clear sign that he thoroughly understands what makes the Penta character successful in any given circumstance. Alexander finds himself in a similar situation. If he enters the Rumble as a competent Iron Man or an elitist wrestling villain, he can seamlessly transition into those roles without requiring extensive explanation or expounded motivation. Even some of WWE’s top talent struggle with this at times.
A different look from the rest of the roster
Beyond being tall, having a technologically advanced approach, and exuding an appealing demeanor, Josh Alexander is reminiscent of Samoa Joe during his WWE debut. While the comparison may initially seem unusual, Alexander shares with Joe a unique blend of shoot fighter elements and independent wrestling icon status, enhanced by their distinct swagger and intimidating presence. Similar to Joe, Alexander possesses these first two qualities along with his own mix of confidence and determination. Compared to the extravagant costumes of Seth Rollins or the grandeur of Jey Uso, Alexander’s headpiece and singlet combination appears more minimalistic.
Some individuals who started on independent wrestling circuits have evolved into caricatures reminiscent of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) personas. Rhea Ripley has lost some of her original grit, while Shinsuke Nakamura has undergone a significant transformation for the second time, which adds intrigue. What makes Josh Alexander captivating is his lack of resemblance to a typical WWE product, particularly as Triple H and the company are aiming to fundamentally reshape that image.
Josh Alexander will fit perfectly in WWE without NXT.
Josh Alexander appears to be an exceptional match for WWE due to reasons that seem to set him apart from many current WWE superstars, which is precisely why he’s a great fit for today’s WWE landscape. The industry and WWE, in particular, are undergoing significant change, with traditional norms being challenged at every turn. The WWE ID program, TNA partnership, AEW television deal, and the rise of Bloodsport all suggest that viewers consume wrestling in diverse ways, and WWE performers need to mirror this diversity.

As a fan, I’m currently thrilled that Josh Alexander holds the title, but a potential shift to NXT could steer him off course. This transition might even prepare him for a tough loss in his first contenders match, which isn’t necessarily bad, but it would be a shame to see such talent go underutilized in that role.
NXT is designed as a polishing ground, smoothing out the rough edges of newer talents and preparing them for the spotlight. In some cases, it offers established wrestlers an opportunity to develop their personas. However, Josh Alexander doesn’t need this refinement – his character is already well-crafted and experienced.
I believe WWE should let this seasoned talent dive straight into the US Championship scene without a detour to NXT. After WrestleMania, he could potentially become a formidable opponent at the top of the card, adding depth and excitement to the storylines.
