Filming for Jonathan Majors’ new action movie was temporarily halted when crew members left the set following an incident involving the actor and his co-star, JC Kilcoyne. Both Majors and Kilcoyne reportedly fell out of a window while shooting a scene.
In late March, an accident occurred on the South Carolina set of a new action movie being produced by Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend. During filming, both Jonathan Majors and a crew member fell approximately six feet after the glass panel they were near unexpectedly broke during a stunt.
Reports indicate the window’s glass wasn’t properly secured, and Kilcoyne needed stitches on multiple hands after it broke. Fortunately, Majors wasn’t hurt.

So, I’m hearing from insiders that the whole thing went wrong after they swapped out a part of the set with what they thought was safe glass – a special kind meant to break dramatically for a stunt later on. Apparently, that’s when things went sideways.
After the incident and due to growing safety worries on set, over half of the film crew chose to unionize with IATSE and went on strike on March 26th.
According to Deadline, the union first attempted to resolve issues with payments into health and pension funds. However, the situation escalated over the last five weeks of filming as safety concerns increased. These concerns included reports of black mold on set and incidents where props fell and injured crew members.
Producer Dallas Sonnier strongly criticized the strike, saying he and other producers were too focused on the action-packed work of filmmaking – like explosions, helicopter flights, and filming action sequences – to worry about the protesters with signs.
The industry is facing a major crisis because of ongoing strikes. Now, some striking workers are attempting to disrupt the work of those who haven’t joined the strike. Sonnier stated they will not negotiate with individuals holding communist beliefs.
This new action film will mark Jonathan Majors’ return to acting after being let go by Marvel from his part as Kang the Conqueror.
Jonathan Majors played Kang in the Disney+ series Loki and the 2023 film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Shortly after the film’s release, Majors was arrested for assaulting his former partner. He was later convicted of harassment and a misdemeanor assault charge, and Disney terminated his contract.
He recently starred in Creed III, appearing in the film just weeks before his arrest.
Controversial Superhero Castings That Paid Off

1. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
Jesse Eisenberg didn’t base his portrayal of Lex Luthor on the comic books, which likely contributed to the negative reaction from many fans. He was drawn to the role because of the script’s quality, seeing it as a chance to play a well-written character, much like his previous role as a brilliant, anxious tech billionaire in The Social Network. While his serious take on Lex Luthor initially disappointed many viewers, some fans have since come to appreciate his performance.

2. Zendaya as MJ in Spider-Man: Homecoming
When Zendaya was cast alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans immediately started speculating about her role. Her character was named MJ, leading many to assume she’d be playing Mary Jane Watson. However, this created confusion because Mary Jane is traditionally a redhead, while Zendaya has dark hair. It turned out Zendaya wasn’t playing the Mary Jane Watson, but a completely new character named MJ. Zendaya told THR they found the fan reactions amusing, saying, “You’ll just have to wait and see.” Over the three Spider-Man movies, fans grew to love Zendaya’s version of MJ – a smart, funny character who quickly became a fan favorite.

3. Chris Evans as Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger
Marvel initially wanted an American actor to play Captain America, but Chris Evans wasn’t their first choice. He had already played the Human Torch in two earlier Fantastic Four movies, which made them hesitant. As Kevin Feige explained to The Hollywood Reporter, they kept searching but eventually revisited their initial list of candidates, leading them back to Evans. When he was cast, some fans were unhappy, worried that Marvel was reusing an actor or that Evans wasn’t physically suited for the part. However, Marvel’s decision proved to be perfect – Evans became an ideal Captain America.

4. Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk in The Avengers
It’s common for fans to question casting choices in superhero movies, but with The Avengers, the actor himself had doubts. Mark Ruffalo, known for independent films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Kids Are Alright, wasn’t sure he was right for the role of Bruce Banner/the Hulk. He even tried to convince the filmmakers otherwise, telling Variety he didn’t have experience with that type of role. However, director Joss Whedon and Robert Downey Jr. persuaded him he could pull it off. Ruffalo’s casting was already a point of discussion, as he was replacing Edward Norton, who had been let go due to creative differences. Ultimately, Ruffalo brought a likable and charming quality to the character of Bruce Banner.

5. Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X-Men
After over 20 years, it’s difficult to picture anyone but Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. However, casting him wasn’t a straightforward decision for Fox or the film’s creators. Initially, Jackman seemed too mild-mannered and handsome to embody the character’s fierce anger, and he wasn’t a well-known actor yet. As screenwriter David Hayter explained to CBR, Jackman was excellent in his first audition, but he came across as too nice and physically imposing to be Wolverine. The original choice, Dougray Scott, had to withdraw due to an accident, leading Fox to take a chance on Jackman. Though Jackman’s portrayal differs from the comic book Wolverine – who is 5’3” – he ultimately made the role uniquely his own.

6. Ben Affleck as Batman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
Most people were surprised when Ben Affleck was cast as Batman, and the initial reaction online was overwhelmingly negative. This was particularly strange because Affleck was riding a wave of critical success, having recently won Oscars for directing and producing Argo. He admitted to Howard Stern that the backlash really bothered him. He wondered what he needed to do to earn people’s approval, especially after his previous successes. He quickly realized the situation would escalate, even leading to petitions. Despite some issues with the film’s pacing, Affleck’s performance was ultimately well-received – fans even voted him the best Batman in a survey.

7. Michael Keaton as Batman in Batman
Michael Keaton wasn’t the first Batman actor to face criticism. Just like Ben Affleck, many questioned his ability to play the Caped Crusader. However, director Tim Burton, who had previously worked with Keaton on the film Beetlejuice, believed he was right for the part. In fact, the casting caused such a public uproar that fans wrote letters to Warner Bros. and the story even made it into the Wall Street Journal. Despite being known primarily for comedy, Keaton ultimately won over fans and became a beloved Batman.

8. Heath Ledger as The Joker in The Dark Knight
When Christopher Nolan chose Heath Ledger to play the Joker in The Dark Knight, many Batman fans were surprised and upset. Jonathan Nolan, Christopher’s brother and a writer on the film, has said he was initially confused by the decision, but quickly understood Ledger was perfect for the role. Speaking with THR, Jonathan Nolan recalled the strong negative reaction from fans at the time, saying they were heavily criticized. However, Christopher Nolan remained confident in his choice and moved forward. Ledger’s performance was so acclaimed that he won a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

9. Idris Elba as Heimdall in Thor
When Kenneth Branagh cast Idris Elba as the Asgardian god Heimdall in the movie Thor, some fans protested online. Because Heimdall was traditionally depicted as very fair-skinned, some dedicated Thor fans believed Marvel should have chosen an actor with a similar Nordic background. However, once the film was released, the controversy quickly faded – Elba delivered a fantastic performance. The actor himself was surprised by the negative reaction, famously asking, “We have a man who flies with a hammer and wears horns, but me – an actor of African descent playing a Norse god – is unbelievable?” (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter).

10. Michael Clarke Duncan as Kingpin in Daredevil
I always thought Michael Clarke Duncan was incredible as Kingpin in Daredevil, and it’s interesting to hear about the reaction to his casting. Apparently, the character is white in the comics, but the director, Mark Steven Johnson, felt Duncan just was Kingpin – he had that powerful presence the role needed. Johnson has said he got a lot of criticism for it, a real catch-22. He wanted to cast the best actor, regardless of race, but some fans were upset that Kingpin wasn’t portrayed as white in the film. Still, he doesn’t regret his decision at all, because Duncan absolutely nailed the performance, even if the movie itself was a little messy.
