‘ upcoming movie has hit a setback.
Jonathan Majors was set to be a key figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he was let go from his role as Kang after being found guilty of misdemeanor assault and harassment in 2023. He recently starred in the film Magazine Dreams, released on March 21st, but his next project is now facing difficulties.
According to Deadline, actor Jeremy Majors and his co-star, JC Kilcoyne, were injured last week when they fell through a window during filming of an upcoming action movie produced by The Daily Wire and Bonfire Legend. The crew union, IATSE, began a strike on March 26th, raising concerns about safety on set.
While the actor previously known as Kang wasn’t hurt, another actor, Kilcoyne, needed stitches on his hands, according to Deadline. The injury happened because a window had been replaced with a fragile piece of glass that wasn’t properly secured—it was meant to be broken later by stunt professionals.
A video of the incident, shared by DiscusingFilm, shows actor Jonathan Majors jumping in front of co-star Rob Kilcoyne just as a gun goes off during filming. Both actors then fell through a window, dropping about six feet to the ground. Kilcoyne’s representatives said he’s doing fine and received immediate medical attention from the production team, and that he feels safe continuing to work on set.
Production has been temporarily stopped after several crew members raised concerns about safety on set. They report a pattern of incidents, including props and set pieces falling, with one crew member stating that a recent accident involving an actor falling from a window is part of a larger problem. For instance, a rigged tree branch reportedly fell and injured the set’s medic.
People working on the film, possibly called Run Hide Fight Infidels, have reported generally unsafe working conditions. They also say that director Kyle Rankin and department heads never held safety meetings before stunts or when using prop guns – a practice that’s normally standard.
A crew member shared with Deadline that filming has been highly unusual, lacking typical procedures like a production manager or even a standard crew list. Because of this, an unofficial, “black market” crew list circulated so people could figure out who was working on the movie.
The accident involving Majors and Kilcoyne happened after concerns about a filming location. Crew members reported the production wanted to use a site with dangerous black mold and potential asbestos, but they protested and successfully convinced the team to find a different location. One former worker told Deadline:
They weren’t concerned with how their actions would affect the crew in the future. It doesn’t seem like they even considered the long-term consequences, likely because they weren’t very competent.
I just heard something really concerning about the new movie! Apparently, the special effects supervisor, Chris Bailey, isn’t allowed to work with explosives on set anymore. It turns out he actually pleaded guilty to illegally having them on a previous film set, which is pretty scary to think about.
Over 60% of the crew working on Majors’ new movie have indicated they want IATSE to represent them in contract negotiations. IATSE has officially contacted the film’s production team about this. While most of the crew aren’t currently part of a union, the main actors and directors are covered by an agreement with SAG-AFTRA.
Even though there are worries about the situation, production on Jonathan Majors’ next film after Magazine Dreams is still happening. The plan is to bring in new crew members to replace those currently on strike. Here’s what Sonnier said about the strike:
The industry is facing a major crisis because of ongoing strikes. Now that many workers are unemployed, some are attempting to disrupt those who are still working. We refuse to negotiate with those holding extremist ideologies.
Sonnier recently made another harsh statement following his initial reaction to reports of IATSE’s efforts regarding the production. He stated that he and other producers are too focused on the action-packed aspects of filmmaking – like explosions, stunts, and fight scenes – to worry about protesters and what he considers an unjustified strike.
While there’s no confirmed release date for the new movie, it’s expected to be in the same vein as films like Red Dawn (1984) or Toy Soldiers (1991). Although Majors didn’t appear to be hurt from a recent fall, he’s been facing a number of public controversies lately.
