Jonathan Bailey and Lesley Manville confirmed with all-star cast for “chilling” new Dracula thriller

A fresh take on Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula is coming in early October, featuring Jonathan Bailey and Lesley Manville among its cast. It’s a great way to kick off the Halloween season!

The tale of the vampire count from Transylvania who travels to Britain to cause fear is a well-known one – it’s been retold many times – but this isn’t a typical adaptation for television or film.

Rather than a traditional book, it’s been created as an immersive audio drama for Audible. They’ve called it a chilling and psychologically thrilling experience that will really make you think.

Though known for playing heroic roles in shows like Bridgerton and Wicked, actor Bailey is now stepping into a villainous role – he’ll be portraying the iconic vampire, Dracula.

Ella Purnell, known for her role in Fallout, stars as Mina, the woman he’s fixated on. Louis Partridge, from Enola Holmes, plays her fiancé, Jonathan, and Aimee Lou Wood, recently seen in The White Lotus season 3, is her close friend Lucy.

What to Read Next

The cast includes Lesley Manville (from The Crown) as Mrs. Westenra, Johnny Flynn (Vanity Fair) as Renfield, David Jonsson (Industry) as Dr. Seward, Francis Lovehall (A Thousand Blows) as Arthur, and Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Deuce) playing a male version of Professor Van Helsing.

Audible is launching several language versions of the audiobook, featuring Omar Sy—the star of Lupin—leading the French voice cast.

Audible excels at creating captivating audiobooks that fully immerse listeners in the story, according to Aurelie de Troyer, Audible’s head of international content.

Honestly, the moment Dracula seems to be right with you, like you can feel his breath and hear him moving around, but you can’t actually see him… that’s when it hit me why this story belongs here. This production really digs into the scary, mind-game side of Dracula, and it’s all about the intense struggle between Mina and him. It’s truly captivating!

When Mina Murray’s fiancé disappears in Transylvania, she investigates by collecting clues from letters, diary pages, and frightening accounts from others. Her search reveals a dangerous hunter is after those she cares about – and she’s his next target.

When Mina’s best friend, Lucy, falls under a mysterious influence, they call upon the knowledgeable Professor Van Helsing to fight against this terrifying and unknown danger.

However, it’s Mina – with her sharp mind, strong will, and talent for connecting seemingly unrelated pieces of information – who likely holds the solution to stopping this ancient threat, assuming it hasn’t already infiltrated her thoughts.

Audible’s Dracula releases on 1 October.
