Jon M Chu denies Britney Spears casting rumour: “None of this is true”

Wicked director Jon M Chu has denied casting rumours for the upcoming Britney Spears biopic.

Last year, I learned that a film, centered around the story of my life as told in my memoir “The Woman in Me,” was set to be produced by Universal.

Later on, it became known that Chu had joined forces with Marc Platt, who is also associated with “La La Land” and “Dear Evan Hansen,” for the project’s development.

Ever since then, there has been much discussion online about the potential cast members, such as a social media post from Buzzing Pop suggesting: “Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Millie Bobby Brown are reportedly competing for the role of Britney Spears in a Jon M. Chu-directed biopic, considered a significant opportunity for the actress who lands it.

Director Chu swiftly debunked the speculation, clarifying that no discussions about casting had taken place yet.

Nothing from what you said is accurate. Although it may sound intriguing, we haven’t had a single discussion about casting for this movie yet. We are still very much in the early stages of development. I apologize.”

Or:

“What you mentioned isn’t correct. While it might seem interesting, no discussions about casting for the movie have taken place yet. We are just starting out with the development process. I’m sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”

Or:

“The information you shared is incorrect. Although the idea might be exciting, we haven’t held any conversations regarding casting for the film yet. At this point, we’re still in the early phases of production and development. My apologies for any misunderstanding.

The film’s rights allegedly ignited a massive auction, stemming from the acclaimed success of Spears’ book “The Woman in Me,” published in October 2023.

The book delves into the early life and music career kick-off of the singer, which includes her time with Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club, and her extraordinary journey that led her to become a globally renowned pop sensation.

Additionally, it shed light on her battles from 2007 and the conservatorship that lasted more than a decade, following which she openly disclosed the profound effects it had on her.

More recently, Millie Bobby Brown publicly responded to whispers about her participation in the endeavor, suggesting that she might be a contender for the legendary character.

In conversation with Entertainment Tonight, she expressed: “There is nothing more delightful to me than portraying such a legendary, radiant character. I’ll let fate decide that.
