Jon Bernthal’s Punisher Joins Tom Holland in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Summary
- Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will debut on the big screen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day
- The film follows No Way Home, with Tom Holland returning as Spider-Man
- Bernthal will also reprise his role in Daredevil: Born Again and a Disney+ Punisher feature
Jon Bernthal is bringing his formidable Punisher to the big screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jon Bernthal’s character will first appear in the movie “Spider-Man: Fresh Start,” sharing the screen with Tom Holland who portrays the main character. The plot picks up after the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” where everyone forgot that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
The fact that Bernthal reprises his role as The Punisher, a character known for its gritty, R-rated portrayal from the Marvel’s Daredevil Netflix series, is noteworthy due to his commitment to preserving this violent edge. This brings up an intriguing point regarding how such a mature tone will mesh with the generally family-friendly Spider-Man films. Marvel seems to be expanding The Punisher’s universe, as Bernthal is set to appear in Daredevil: Born Again season two and a standalone Punisher series on Disney+, which he is also co-writing.
A substantial part of the storyline for “Brand New Day” remains shrouded in mystery, as whispers suggest several possible antagonists could emerge. It has been confirmed that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will reappear as MJ and Ned, although details about their participation are yet to be revealed. Furthermore, Sadie Sink from “Stranger Things” is joining the cast in a substantial role, with spectators guessing she may portray Jean Gray from the X-Men or an alternate version of Mary Jane “MJ” Watson.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters July 31, 2026.
