Jon Bernthal brings back The Punisher’s trench coat in new set videos

A short 10-second video from Marvel’s upcoming 2026 Punisher series features Jon Bernthal in his Punisher costume as Frank Castle. In the clip, he is depicted walking between two yellow school buses.

In the video, you can see him donning a lengthy black trench coat and sporting an untamed, thick beard. This is quite different from his previous portrayals, such as his recent one in Daredevil: Born Again, where he was clean-shaven and without the coat.

As a seasoned movie critic, I must admit that Jon Bernthal’s distinctive trench coat and beard combo was notably absent from his previous portrayals of The Punisher in both Netflix’s Defenders Saga and Marvel Cinematic Universe’s debut, “Born Again.” However, recent glimpses shared by enthusiastic fans on platform X (previously known as Twitter) hint at Frank Castle engaging in gunfire with adversaries inside a moving vehicle, followed by a dramatic entrance into a restaurant associated with Ma Gnucci. Rumor has it that she will serve as the primary antagonist for The Punisher, marking her as the first female live-action villain he’s confronted in quite some time. Intriguingly, Bernthal was last seen evading Wilson Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force at the conclusion of “Born Again” Season 1.

In a new adaptation, the storyline for The Punisher unfolds subsequent to the events of Daredevil: Rebirth. Jon Bernthal collaborated on the script with Reinaldo Marcus Green, who additionally assumes the role of director.

The upcoming Special Presentation is likely to carry an R rating and is scheduled for release on Disney+ in 2026. Previously, Bernthal had mentioned to The Hollywood Reporter that the production would be quite dark, with no intention of lightening it up. He emphasized that it wouldn’t resemble a watered-down version of The Punisher. In another interview with Collider, he stated that if they decide to proceed, they must do it justice and maintain a deep respect for the original source material.

In the upcoming movie titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” scheduled for release on July 31, 2026, Jon Bernthal will take on the role of The Punisher once more. This film signifies the character Frank Castle’s first cinematic appearance since his last portrayal in “Punisher: War Zone” back in 2008.
