Joker 2 sets unwanted record with box office collapse

As a gamer with a knack for movies and a soft spot for superheroes, I must admit that the recent performance of Joker: Folie à Deux at the box office has left me rather puzzled. The movie’s rapid descent from the top spot to third place is something I haven’t seen since my days playing “Super Mario Bros.” and jumping on Goombas, only to fall into a pit moments later.

Joker: Folie à Deux has set an unwanted record after a box office collapse.

During its premiere on October 4th, the DC blockbuster dominated the box office, but it has since slipped to third place following an unprecedented 81% drop – the steepest decline for any movie featuring a DC character in the franchise so far, according to Variety.

Among second weekend declines, it ranks as one of the most substantial, falling much more steeply than any of last year’s underperforming superhero films, such as The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and The Flash.

2019 saw me immersing myself in the groundbreaking film “Joker”, a movie that bagged two Oscars. On its initial release, it generated a staggering $96.2 million at the box office, eventually amassing a mind-blowing total of over $1 billion worldwide.

The second part of the series was produced at an estimated cost of $200 million, however, it has earned just $51.6 million in the U.S. and $165.3 million internationally.

In contrast to what was expected, Terrifier 3, featuring David Howard Thornton once more as Art the Clown, is now projected to rule the box office this weekend. This comes after its impressive debut of $18.3 million, a strong opening for a low-budget slasher movie.

The news follows as “Folie à Deux” sets a new record by being the initial comic book film to receive a D grade from viewers, surpassing the C- rating of “Fantastic Four.

In the next part, the story continues with Arthur Fleck (played by Joaquin Phoenix) being confined at Arkham, where he is kept until his trial for the actions that led him to become the Joker.

In his battle with his two-sided personality, he encounters Harleen Quinzel (portrayed by Lady Gaga), and uncovers the music that had been dormant within him all along.

Zazie Beetz once again takes on the character of Sophie Dumond in the movie. Joining her are some fresh faces such as Harry Lawtey from “Industry”, Jacob Lofland known for “Maze Runner”, Steve Coogan, Ken Leung who was part of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and Brendan Gleeson, a familiar face from “The Banshees of Inisherin”.

The reception towards “Folie à Deuxtwo” has predominantly been unfavorable, resulting in a poor rating of 33% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 325 reviews at the time this text was composed.

Joker: Folie à Deux is out now in cinemas. Joker is available to buy on Blu-ray or streaming now.
