Joker 2 digital release date confirmed after box office flop

As a gamer who’s seen his fair share of sequels, I can’t help but feel a sense of deja vu with the recent release of “Joker: Folie à Deux”. The digital release announcement feels like the game over screen flashing too soon, leaving me wondering if I missed something in the cinematic experience.

Joker: Folie à Deux has confirmed a digital release date following its box office flop.

The most recent installment in the series, which just came out, hasn’t been doing so well in theaters. It’s currently facing an unprecedented 81% decline in ticket sales, making it the poorest-performing film based on a DC Comics character to date.

In less than two weeks after its theatrical debut, Variety is reporting that it will be digitally released on October 29.

So far, the film has earned a total of $51.6 million within the U.S. and $165.3 million worldwide. However, its previous version opened with a higher gross of $96.2 million domestically.

Its recent decline represents one of the most substantial second-weekend decreases on record, surpassing even the drops experienced by upcoming 2023 superhero films like “The Marvels” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

The response from critics and viewers towards “Joker: Folie à Deux” has been relatively lackluster. It’s notable that this superhero film is the first to receive a D rating from audience CinemaScores, and it currently stands at 33% on Rotten Tomatoes with only fresh reviews.

The movie continues the story of the Joker/Arthur Fleck, and introduces Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn.

In our two-star review for the film in Digital Spy, we noted that neither Lady Gaga’s fame nor Joaquin Phoenix’s dedication could prevent a self-destined movie from meeting its tragic end.

Currently, director Todd Phillips has expressed his doubts about making a third film or a solo Harley movie, stating that it’s not the direction he envisions for this project.

“I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these two films,” he added to The Hollywood Reporter.

Previously, Phillips expressed to Variety: “It was enjoyable to explore this type of playground across two films, but I believe we’ve conveyed what we intended to express within this universe.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that the much-anticipated movie “Joker: Folie à Deux” is now playing in theaters near you! If you missed it at the cinema, don’t worry, you can still catch the Joker by purchasing it on Blu-ray or streaming it online. Enjoy the madness!
