JoJo Siwa, Drew Barrymore and more revealed as interview guests in Demi Lovato's Child Star documentary... as it finally gets a release date

As a dedicated follower of Demi Lovato’s journey, I am truly excited about their upcoming documentary, “Child Star.” Having battled my own share of personal demons and navigating through the tumultuous world of stardom, I can deeply resonate with the experiences that Demi will be exploring in this film.

The forthcoming documentary titled “Child Star,” helmed by Demi Lovato, will include conversations with Drew Barrymore, JoJo Siwa, Christina Ricci, and others, as announced on Wednesday.

The filmmaker who was once a singer is set to conduct interviews with several past young actors such as Kenan Thompson, Raven-Symoné, and also Alyson Stoner, who acted alongside Demi Lovato in the movie “Camp Rock,” as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

At the tender age of eight, Demi secured her debut role on Barney & Friends, which subsequently catapulted her into becoming a notable figure on the Disney Channel.

Over the course of maturing into a well-known figure, she faced numerous internal struggles, such as bulimia, substance addiction, and bipolar condition.

Currently, Demi – an individual identifying as nonbinary and comfortable with both “she” and “they” pronouns – is embarking on their first directorial venture with a film titled Child Star. In this project, they are delving into the lives of individuals who, like themselves, grew up under the intense public spotlight.

As a devoted follower, I’m thrilled to share that the much-anticipated documentary is set to debut on my screen via Hulu on September 17. The runtime? A captivating 90 minutes!

At fifteen, Demi made her debut on the Disney Channel in the premiere of Camp Rock, where she shared the screen with Alyson and the Jonas Brothers.

By then, she had become a regular fixture on Disney Channel, starring in their sitcom “As the Bell Rings” that aired from 2007 to 2008.

Over time, she evolved into a pop music superstar, but as she advanced in age, more and more of her private struggles became public issues.

Demi openly shared her personal struggles, revealing that she started experimenting with drugs during her pre-teenage years, which escalated following a car accident that led to being given prescription opioids.

In her confession on Call Her Daddy, she acknowledged that she had taken her father’s beer, her mother’s prescription Xanax, and experimented with cocaine for the first time when she was only 17 years old.

Back in 2018, I found myself battling the harsh reality of a nearly fatal heroin overdose. This harrowing experience led to a series of life-threatening complications, including three devastating strokes, a heart attack, and permanent damage to my brain.

Approximately three years ago, she sparked debate by identifying herself as “California sober,” a term indicating she continued to use cannabis. Later, she revealed that she had also stopped using cannabis.

Additionally, she’s been identified as having bipolar disorder and has struggled with bulimia, which involved frequent episodes of overeating followed by purging. At one point, this behavior led her to vomit blood.

Demi first announced the Child Star documentary last year.

She expressed great pride in launching her directing career for the first time with a documentary that highlights the intricacies of child stardom, a subject deeply meaningful to her, as the release date was officially unveiled. This was shared in a recent announcement.

Let me express my gratitude to our actors for bravely revealing their personal stories, and to our generous contributors who have shared their wisdom to propel the discussion further.

She mentioned, ‘I wish that spectators will develop a greater awareness of the hurdles and stressors experienced by youth within the industry. This understanding will help us attain our objective of crafting a secure and encouraging atmosphere for upcoming entertainers, influencers on social media, and more.’
