Johnny Depp brewing up next major movie role three years after Amber Heard legal scandal

Three years after a highly publicized and damaging legal battle with his ex-wife, Amber Heard, Johnny Depp is landing a significant role in a new movie.

According to TMZ, the 62-year-old actor will star in a new movie adaptation of Charles Dickens’s ‘A Christmas Carol,’ titled ‘Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol’.

Sources say Johnny Depp is close to finalizing a deal to star in a major new film. This would be his first large-scale movie project since the public dispute with his former wife began.

Paramount Pictures is currently working on the film, which is also set to tar Andrea Riseborough.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I just read the description for this new movie and it sounds AMAZING! It’s a spooky ghost story set in Dickensian London – seriously, how cool is that?! It’s about a guy who’s forced to confront everything – his past, his present, even what could be in his future – and it’s like, a fight for redemption or something? TMZ said so, and honestly, I’m already obsessed and counting down the days!

A spokesperson for Johnny confirmed the story reported by TMZ to The Daily Mail, but declined to provide any additional details.

According to a source close to the actor, Johnny has had a packed 2025 and has even more major projects on the horizon, including the film ‘Modi,’ which stars Al Pacino and Stephen Graham.

Depp directed the film, which will be released on November 7.

Plus, his art show, ‘A Bunch of Stuff,’ will be heading to Tokyo in November. TMZ says he’s also really enjoying filming the movie ‘Day Drinker’ with Penelope Cruz.

After winning his 2022 defamation trial against Amber, Johnny began a measured comeback.

He made a comeback with the 2023 French film Jeanne du Barry, which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival to a standing ovation.

He also renewed his successful partnership with Dior Sauvage, securing a fragrance deal that set new records. In addition to acting, he continues to work on music with his band, Hollywood Vampires.

Until recently, his return to prominence has focused on European films, fashion, and music, rather than major Hollywood productions. That’s now starting to change.

Johnny Depp lost a UK court case in 2020 after being accused of domestic violence, but he won a separate US lawsuit against Amber Heard in 2022. However, the US jury also sided with Heard on one of her claims, finding that Depp’s lawyer had defamed her.

The scandal severely damaged Johnny’s reputation, causing a significant decline in his status as a top actor. Sensationalized news reports detailing allegations of domestic abuse, sexual violence, drug use, and heavy drinking contributed to this downfall.

The situation with Amber put his career in serious jeopardy. He lost his prominent role in the ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore’ movie, and Hollywood largely stopped working with him.

Disney also removed him from his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the next ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie.

I was really struck by what Johnny shared in The Telegraph. He basically said he was completely cut off – rejected, dropped, and essentially blacklisted. He used so many terms to describe it, but the message was clear: he felt completely ostracized.

Referring to the trials, he said: ‘I fought it because had I not then I wouldn’t have been me.

‘Would I rather have not gone through that? Of course.

‘But I learned more than I ever dreamed I could.’
