To rectify his own errors, he often goes above and beyond, only to find himself repeating a similar unrepentant choice. Despite seeking tranquility, John Wick has endured an extraordinary amount of conflict. Each subsequent John Wick film surpasses the previous one in terms of violence, leading us to wonder how many lives John Wick has claimed in the upcoming films, with John Wick 5 on the horizon and a spinoff prequel due this summer.

In an unexpected turn, the death toll in John Wick: Chapter 2 appears lower than expected, with just 51 on-screen fatalities. This action-packed sequel, directed by Chad Stahelski, continues directly from where the original film ended. After avenging his beloved dog, John Wick initially intends to return to his life of solitude and retirement. However, the repercussions from the events in the first movie inevitably catch up with him.

Returning to his old criminal lifestyle means some spectral figures will revisit him again. In the realm of John Wick, personal matters generally don’t bode well, and only at the start and finish does Wick exhibit a reckless demeanor in this movie. His adherence to the marker triggers Santino to dispatch his henchmen to Wick’s doorstep, significantly increasing Wick’s body count in the film. However, the assassin manages to cheat death once more after completing the task, as Santino falsely accuses Wick of murdering his sister and sends a torrent of assassins towards him.

In the first installment of John Wick, there’s no hesitation in showcasing the violent essence that defines this action series. The story unfolds as John Wick embarks on a quest for vengeance following the brutal murder of his cherished puppy, an emotional reminder of his late wife who had given it to him as a token of love. Despite his desire for solitude after his wife’s passing, he is compelled to return to the underworld when Viggo Tarasov’s son, Igor Tarasov, and his gang invade Wick’s home, wound him, and take the life of his beloved pet.

In a last-ditch effort, Wick retrieves his hidden weapons and treasure, reentering the criminal world in search of Losef to take his life. Despite knowing Wick’s infamous reputation, Viggo won’t let harm come to his son without a fight. Feeble attempts are made to halt the inevitable confrontation by sending men to intercept Wick. However, many meet their end by gunshot during Wick’s vengeful crusade, unintentionally caught in the crossfire as Viggo strives to protect his child. Despite this, it is worth noting that Wick’s relentless pursuit of justice extends beyond a simple act of revenge for his puppy – there’s much more at play here.

The puppy acts as the sole barrier for John Wick from venturing into the underworld. After his wife’s passing, John Wick decided to live in seclusion; however, with her gone, the essence of his tranquil life fades away. Without the dog, Wick becomes a perilous figure, consumed by sorrow and bereft of anything left to protect. It just so happens that Losef crosses paths with Wick at an extremely inopportune moment, providing him with the motivation to release his wrath.

In John Wick: Chapter 2, the story concludes with John Wick taking matters into his own hands by assassinating Santino within the Continental. This action instantly brands him as Excommunicado, putting his survival at stake. With every assassin in the city hot on his trail, chaos is inevitable. It appears that John’s sudden decision to kill Santino may have been impulsive. The question remains why he didn’t wait. Maybe retirement had an influence on him. His deliberate pursuit of revenge could also be a factor.

In his days working within the industry, John Wick was often serving others’ demands, but avenging his pet pooch presented an opportunity for him to pursue something of his own volition. Since then, John Wick has undergone significant transformation, and at his current age and level of expertise, flouting the rules holds greater allure for him. However, it is revealed in the third movie that John Wick learns the implications of challenging the rules established by the High Table of John Wick.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum significantly increased the death toll compared to the second film due to Wick’s actions making him an outcast and a marked man. A price was put on his head, and the world became a dangerous place for him. Everyone aimed to take him down, leaving Wick with no sanctuary. In desperation, he searches for a means to rectify his error.

It’s intriguing that the rules which Wick defies eventually become crucial for his very existence. In his battle with Zero, he touches the steps of the Continental Hotel and manages to halt Zero, momentarily, from ending his life. The fact that he is Excommunicado does not alter the hotel’s rules; instead, it becomes a means to facilitate his escape. Later on, John looks for a safe passage from the Director of the Ruska Roma criminal organization since he was previously one of its members. He also uses Sofia’s marker to persuade her into assisting him. His journey to Casablanca implies that he can no longer evade, but it doesn’t mean that he won’t repeat the same mistake again.

Following the passing of a puppy, events unfolded that resulted in approximately 500 fatalities. This lengthy (169-minute) film within the series boasts the highest number of deaths. Brimming with jaw-dropping action sequences and copious amounts of bloodshed, the plot is coherent. John Wick vows loyalty to the Elder by sacrificing his ring finger in the High Table, only to lose it when he fails to assassinate Winston. Instead of reclaiming his ring, Wick retaliates by slaying the Elder. With Winston’s assistance, Wick elevates his strategy by exploiting a rule from the High Table. The High Table finds this defiance displeasing.

To prevent Wick from serving as an inspiration for other assassins, the High Table increases the reward for capturing or killing him. The movie portrays numerous assassins chasing after Wick, using radios to track his real-time location. Wick must battle through obstacles just to reach the duel site. Surprisingly, he remains the world’s most-wanted fugitive but still manages to receive aid from old acquaintances and unexpected allies like Mr. Nobody. In John Wick: Chapter 4, the series delivers its hardest-hitting installment yet, with numerous emotional deaths. It also offers a deeper look into the lives of assassins within this deadly game. As they believe themselves to be safe, unforeseen consequences arise. Looking back, the tranquility Wick experienced in John Wick is precious and elusive, despite its brevity.

But the Death Toll Is Bound to Rise

After gracing our screens across four electrifying installments, the speculation among fans ran rife that we had seen the last of John Wick. Yet, Lionsgate officially confirmed the long-awaited return of Keanu Reeves as our favorite hitman in the much-anticipated John Wick: Chapter 5, announced on April Fool’s Day. With each film surpassing its predecessor in box office success, this franchise continues to grow and expand at an exhilarating pace. The original John Wick raked in a staggering $86 million worldwide, while the latest installment, John Wick: Chapter 4 , grossed a whopping $440 million. The dramatic finale of the fourth movie left us hanging on the edge of our seats, unsure if Wick met his end or not. This tantalizing cliffhanger only intensified the agonizing wait for confirmation of John Wick: Chapter 5. At long last, fans can rejoice: the legend of John Wick lives on.

As the intensity and disorder in each installment of the John Wick series grows, it’s safe to say that the body count will significantly increase. With John Wick: Chapter 4 potentially having him take down 140 enemies, it seems likely that the risks will be even greater in John Wick: Chapter 5.
