John Wick 5? Fans Can’t Believe It’s Real!
The news that Keanu Reeves will star in John Wick 5 left some fans doubting its authenticity, as they believed it to be a clever April Fool’s Day joke.
Following rumors concerning the sequel’s continuation, it has been confirmed that production on John Wick: Chapter 5 is progressing at Lionsgate, with Keanu Reeves once again stepping into the legendary character, and Chad Stahelski set to resume his directorial duties.
At CinemaCon on Tuesday, Lionsgate surprised everyone by revealing the enlargement of the high-octane universe, even though the previous movie appeared to have ended the life of the main assassin character.
In addition to the fifth installment of John Wick, there are plans underway for both an animated origin story and a standalone series featuring Donnie Yen’s character, Caine, which he will lead.
As a devoted enthusiast, I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming film “Ballerina” led by Ana de Armas, scheduled to grace our cinemas on June 6. Interestingly, Keanu Reeves is rumored to make a cameo in this movie before diving back into the action for “John Wick 5”.
Despite no information being shared about further plot details, new actors joining, or a specific launch date, the surprising disclosure ignited a flurry of excitement among fans on social media, with some expressing doubt that it could be authentic.

One fan expressed their suspicion on Twitter, saying, “Every news source seems to be echoing the same message, I hope this isn’t an elaborate April Fool’s prank you all have planned.” Another follower chimed in with a similar sentiment, “Alright, we understand. It’s April Fools’ Day, right?
But one person swiftly dispelled any doubts with a tweet that said, “This would make for a great April Fool’s prank, but alas, it’s the truth.” (Note: The original text is already quite readable, but I tried to make it even more conversational and informal.)
In a recent conversation, it seemed like the actor indicated he might not be involved in another John Wick movie, hinting at the possible end of John Wick’s storyline in the last film. However, he mentioned an upcoming spin-off featuring Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro.
He mentioned to Extra TV about a possible fifth movie in late February that there’s a variation of it titled Ballerina, set within the John Wick universe, and John Wick briefly appears. Apart from this small detail, he shared no further insights.
When asked if there was a chance for him to take on more roles, he replied jovially, “Well, you should know that the character is no more; he met his end in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4.’
He admitted that Hollywood often brings back well-known characters, but at this moment, he doesn’t have a plan in place for his return.
As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but gush about Keanu Reeves’ portrayal of the iconic character, John Wick, in this captivating series. In a previous life, John was an unrivaled assassin who earned an unmatched reputation among the criminal underworld. Yet, he retired and sought peace. However, fate had other plans, as I found myself drawn back into the brutal world of violence, unwillingly.
The first movie in this series was helmed by director Chad Stahelski, who collaborated with screenwriter Derek Kolstad on the script. This production featured an impressive ensemble cast, which included Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe.

The movie turned out to be extremely successful globally, earning approximately $86 million while only costing between $20-$30 million to produce.
Three years on, Stahelski and Kolstad reunited to create the first sequel, bringing back Moynahan, Leguizamo, and McShane to reprise their characters. They were joined by a fresh set of actors including Common, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Lance Reddick, Peter Stormare, and Franco Nero.
In the box office, John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) surpassed expectations, amassing a total of approximately $171.5 million against an original investment of around $40 million.
For the third installment of John Wick, titled Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), Chad Stahelski resumed his role as director, but this time he worked with a screenplay co-written by Derek Kolstad, Shay Hatten, Chris Collins, and Marc Abrams. In addition to returning cast members, the film introduced notable actors such as Halle Berry, Mark Dacascos, Anjelica Huston, and Asia Kate Dillon.

In line with the pattern set by the first two films, the third chapter broke records and outperformed its predecessors financially, raking in an impressive $327.3 million while only costing $75 million to produce.
In Chapter 4, Reeves was back alongside familiar faces like Ian McShane (as Winston), the late Lance Reddick (in his role as Charon), and Laurence Fishburne (portraying Bowery King).
Keeping up its strong performance at the ticket sales, it ultimately earned an astounding $440.1 million, surpassing expectations given its production cost of approximately $100 million.
The ballet-themed spinoff of the John Wick series, titled Ballerina, set within the timeline of the third movie, is scheduled for a theater release on June 6th.
