John Travolta’s wild wig shocks fans in surprise turn at Grease concert where he transformed into Danny Zuko
On Friday evening in Los Angeles, John Travolta left fans feeling exhilarated as he unexpectedly showed up for a Grease karaoke event.
Originally passing up the chance to act in “American Gigolo,” the 71-year-old artist instead went back to his roots and took on the role of Danny Zuko, a part he had played in the 1978 musical hit.
Tonight at the Hollywood Bowl, I stunned everyone during the Grease Sing-Along by showing up as Danny Zuko – a role I portrayed, as I shared on my social media platforms.
‘No one knew. Not even the cast. Thank you for a great evening,’ he said.
With a confident stride, he assumed the attitude of his character while donning dark denims, a snug black t-shirt, and a sleek black leather coat onstage.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I recently decided to experiment with a new look by donning a sleek, greaser-inspired ducktail wig and growing out a scruffy beard. This transformation, I must say, has been quite refreshing!
Next, he stepped onto the stage alongside Didi Conn, Barry Pearl, Michael Tucci, Kelly Ward, and director Randal Kleiser, who were part of the Grease cast.
Grabbing the microphone, Travolta recited some famous phrases from when Danny Zuko met up with his Summer Nights love Sandy (portrayed by the late Olivia Newton-John) on the opening day of Rydell High School.
That’s neat, that’s neat, that’s neat, darling,” while keeping my cool and rolling with the flow.
He then lead the cast and audience in a chant of ‘A-wop-bop-a-loo-bop-a-lop-bam-boom!’,
Standing in front of a big screen, he then told the crowd, ‘Enjoy the show. We love you!’
A devoted fan, smitten beyond hope, expressed their admiration on John Travolta’s Instagram, saying you are truly legendary and adored to the max.
‘Wish I had been there. Awesome!’ wrote another.
Grease was an instant hit when it opened in theaters in June 1978.

Travolta and Newton-John were each nominated for a Golden Globe award due to their performances as the star-crossed couple, Danny and Sandy, in the teenage roles.
The album’s soundtrack, having sold over 30 million units and dominated the Top 40 radio playlists, eventually received an American Music Award as the favorite Pop/Rock album.
The classic tune “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” originally performed by Newton-John, received an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.
The global box office revenue for the film adaptation of the popular stage musical surpassed $396 million, thanks to re-releases and special sing-a-long events such as the one held at the Hollywood Bowl.
