John Travolta crashes ‘Grease’ sing-along at Hollywood Bowl in full Danny Zuko flair

As a fellow Grease enthusiast in sunny Los Angeles, I’ve got some exciting news to share with you! If you’ve been keeping an eye out, recent summer evenings have held a delightful surprise – and I can’t help but burst into song when I think about it: “Tell me more, tell me more!

On Friday, it was John Travolta, famously known for playing the charismatic bad boy Danny Zuko in the 1978 blockbuster “Grease,” who unexpectedly made an appearance at the Hollywood Bowl‘s sing-along event. Not only did he catch the audience off guard, but also his fellow “Grease” cast members as he strutted onto the stage sporting Danny Zuko’s iconic pompadour hairstyle and leather jacket.

Not a single person was aware, not even the actors themselves,” Travolta, aged 71, reminisced about that instance in a post he shared on Instagram over the weekend.

For the year 2025, the Los Angeles Philharmonic reveals the performance schedule for the Hollywood Bowl, featuring Cynthia Erivo in “Jesus Christ Superstar” and also marking Gustavo Dudamel’s second-to-last season with them.

On Instagram, the actor known for his roles in “Pulp Fiction” and “Hairspray” gave fans a sneak peek at his Danny Zuko hairstyle and shared a video of him meeting up with co-stars Didi Conn, Barry Pearl, Michael Tucci, Kelly Ward, and “Grease” director Randal Kleiser. The video from the sing-along shows the audience excitedly cheering and giving Travolta a standing ovation. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, this unexpected appearance happened before the start of the sing-along event.

He tells his fans, ‘L.A.’, reminiscent of a famous quote from the film. ‘I assumed you were returning to Australia!’

In the “Grease” movie, Danny warmly welcomes back his summer girlfriend Sandy, only to act nonchalant shortly after, concealing his T-Birds greaser identity. The character of Sandy was brilliantly portrayed by Olivia Newton-John. Tragically, she passed away on August 8, 2022, at the age of 73.

Jake Brasch’s play ‘The Reservoir,’ helmed by director Shelley Butler, boasts a talented ensemble with Marin Hinkle as part of the cast, performing at the Geffen Playhouse.

On Friday night, I found myself leading a joyful chorus with fellow fans, echoing the iconic line “A-womp-bop-a-looma-a-womp-bam-boom” from the finale of “Grease,” specifically the song “We Go Together.” After Travolta and his co-stars exited the stage, the sing-along continued. “Thank you for a great evening,” Travolta added in his Instagram post.
