When asked if he’d ever leave his wife, Caitlin McHugh, for his friend Lori Loughlin, John Stamos gave a firm and passionate denial.
The 62-year-old actor, who has been nominated for an Emmy, discussed his long-time friendship with Lori Loughlin, 61, on the Good Guys podcast. The two actors worked together on the show Full House. He was speaking with podcast hosts Ben Soffer and Josh Peck.
The podcast hosts revealed the most common question from listeners was whether the actor would ever leave his wife for Lori Loughlin.
‘No f***ing way!’ Stamos said. ‘I’m not Mormon – do you do that with your wife? Are you a swinger?’
As a longtime follower, I’ve been reading everything about this, and it seems he’s maintained that his relationship with Lori was always just friendly – except for one particular incident at Disneyland that he’s still a little unsure about. He’s always insisted it was platonic, but that one moment has him second-guessing things.
John Stamos, known for his role as Jesse Katsopolis on the sitcom ‘Full House’ (1987-1995), recalls believing he and Lori Loughlin first kissed on a ride at Disneyland. He’s known Loughlin, who played his character’s love interest Becky, since the early 1980s.

Stamos said that Loughlin ‘said it didn’t happen,’ and he was admittedly unclear if it did or not.
The actor, best known for playing Jesse on the Netflix revival of Fuller House (2016–2020), wondered if he’d imagined the whole thing. He described it as a sort of daydream or fantasy.
Stamos clarified that people often mistakenly believed he and Lori Loughlin were a couple in real life, confusing their on-screen chemistry from ‘Full House’ with a genuine romance. This confusion arose even more recently as Loughlin separated from her husband of 28 years, Mossimo Giannulli.
John Stamos explained that people often assume his past relationships were romantic. He mentioned once saying a former partner was ‘the one that got away,’ and he found the reaction to that comment to be noteworthy.
During the podcast, Stamos described Lori Loughlin’s husband, Mossimo Giannulli, as a deeply self-centered person and asserted that he was the driving force behind the college admissions scandal – known as Operation Varsity Blues – which ultimately ruined Loughlin’s reputation and resulted in her going to prison.
Stamos expressed deep sympathy for Lori Loughlin following her recent divorce after 28 years of marriage. He shared that he’s been doing his best to support her through this difficult period.
John Stamos, when discussing the 2019 college admissions scandal involving Lori Loughlin, her husband, and their daughters Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose, argued that Loughlin was unfairly singled out as an example of white privilege.
Following their breakup after almost thirty years together, Stamos shared that Loughlin is heartbroken and deeply affected by everything that happened.

He was deeply saddened, explaining that she had been married for nearly three decades and was a wonderful mother to her daughters. He described her as a beautiful person, both inside and out, but he also told her that all the difficulties she’d faced in life seemed to stem from her relationship with this man.
The actor suggested that Giannulli’s problematic actions weren’t limited to just the college admissions case.
After Soffer mentioned hearing that Giannulli wasn’t a good person and might have been unfaithful, Stamos responded that he wouldn’t comment on it, but acknowledged that whatever happened deeply hurt her.
He went on to say that she had been incredibly patient with him over the years, describing her as a wonderful person who always knew how to improve any situation.
He’s a very accomplished person, but I’ve decided I’m done with him. He’s deeply self-absorbed, and I don’t believe people like that ever change, he explained with conviction. He wondered how someone could disrupt a family and marriage like that.
The actor also revealed he and his wife Caitlin McHugh have been by her side throughout her ordeal.
‘She lives in my neighborhood,’ he shared. ‘Caitlin’s been good about it.’
Although he once playfully referred to her as ‘the one who got away,’ John Stamos emphasized that their relationship is based on a strong friendship and genuine respect for each other.
He joked that Lori reminded him of Sandy Olsson from Grease before her transformation, while his ex-wife, Rebecca Romijn, embodied Sandy’s bolder, more confident side.

Despite her past legal woes, Stamos says his admiration for Loughlin has only grown.
He described her as a wonderful person who has lived a full and happy life, and a devoted mother and wife.
He remembered the morning he found out about the Varsity Blues scandal, explaining that he was woken up at 5 a.m. by a text message asking if Lori was alright.
He initially panicked, worried she might be injured, but when he contacted Loughlin, she dismissed the rumors as false.
I called her while she was in Canada working on a project for Hallmark, and I asked if she was alright. She responded by asking why I was concerned.
After he discussed the college admission scandal rumors, she mentioned she’d gotten a few emails about it, but that her husband, Mossimo, took care of all those issues.
‘She’s not a liar, you know, she’s a saint,’ he said.
Later that day, the story exploded nationwide.

‘I texted her, “Are you watching this press conference?” and she said, “What press conference?”‘
He then told her ‘the one about you and your husband and this college scandal.’
‘And she wrote back, “No, what channel is it on?” I said, ‘All channels. Every channel.’
Loughlin received a two-month prison sentence, and Giannulli served almost five months. However, Stamos believes his friend was treated unfairly and received excessive criticism.
He explained that she received a three-month prison sentence, while he faced a different consequence. True to form, when he asked her how prison was, she replied that she’d met some lovely women and even joined a book club. He believes she didn’t deserve to go through that experience.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always admired entrepreneurs who build something from the ground up. Take Giannulli, for example. Back in 1986, he launched Mossimo, a really popular clothing line that offered stylish pieces at accessible prices, all starting from his base in Newport Beach, California. It’s a great example of how to create a successful brand that resonates with a wide audience.
He earned $1 million in his first year of business, and then increased his revenue to $4 million the next year.
In 1991, Mossimo added sweatshirts, knitwear, and sweaters to its product range. By 1995, the brand had grown to include clothing for both women and men’s suits.
Mossimo, Inc. started as a small business and, after eight years, became a successful sportswear company worth millions of dollars. It became publicly traded in 1996.
In 2000, Mossimo, Inc. signed a significant deal with Target stores worth $27.8 million to sell a variety of products, quickly making the brand well-known. Later, in 2006, the Iconix Brand Group bought Mossimo.
In 2019, Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli were accused of paying $500,000 to Rick Singer to get their daughters recruited to the University of Southern California’s rowing team. Neither of their daughters actually participated in the sport.

In May 2020, Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli admitted guilt related to charges of conspiracy in the college admissions scandal.
Lori Loughlin, known for her roles in Full House and the show’s revival on Netflix, was sentenced to two months in prison, and also ordered to pay a $150,000 fine and complete 150 hours of community service.
Lori Loughlin, known for her role as Aunt Becky on Full House, started serving her prison sentence in October 2020 at a federal facility in Dublin, California, and was released the following December.
As a longtime follower of the case, I was shocked to learn that Giannulli was sentenced to five months, along with a hefty $250,000 fine and 250 hours dedicated to community service. It’s a significant consequence, and I’m curious to see how he’ll fulfill those requirements.
Mossimo Giannulli started serving his prison sentence in November 2020. He was released to home confinement in April 2021, roughly a month before he was scheduled to finish his sentence.
