John Mulaney talks about his secret marriage with Olivia Munn for the FIRST TIME – and sweetly brings his new mother-in-law to Late Night interview appearance
As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that John Mulaney’s latest chapter in life is nothing short of captivating. The comedian’s whirlwind romance with Olivia Munn and subsequent marriage has taken us all by surprise, but it seems to have brought nothing but joy to the happy couple and their families.
Approximately a month following their clandestine wedding, John Mulaney publicly acknowledged the event during his appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Born and raised in Chicago, a 41-year-old individual, was married to Annamarie Tendler for eight years. Unfortunately, their relationship came to an abrupt end around the same time he began dating Olivia Munn, who is also 44 years old. This new couple welcomed their son, Malcolm Hiệp Mulaney, in November 2021.
In July, people were surprised when the couple unexpectedly revealed that they had quietly gotten married in New York City.
The comedian’s old friend Meyers mentioned the wedding at the start of the interview, which Mulaney said, ‘Yes. I did. I got married. Thanks a lot.’
He said, “This is the finest. This is the finest. And, by the way, my mom is also here.” However, when they showed the person identified as ‘his mom,’ it turned out to be his mother-in-law, Kimberly, who he affectionately refers to as ‘Miss Kim.’
In 1975, Kimberly moved from Vietnam to the United States and eventually made her home in Oklahoma City. There, she came across Winston, who would later become Olivia’s father.
When Meyers mentions that Munn is his daughter-in-law, Mulaney replied, ‘Ah, yes. However, as you noted, we are married now, so to me she’s more like an in-law.’
Meyers inquired about how Mulaney felt regarding their interactions with his in-laws. In response, Mulaney expressed that it was the best moment of his entire life.
He has found himself in many intriguing circumstances, and among those memorable experiences, he mentioned that marrying into a big Vietnamese family was one of the most enjoyable adventures he’s embarked on.
In discussing the intricacies of joining my wife’s family, I remarked, “Attempting an exact portrayal of my mother-in-law on stage would likely signal the end of my career. Therefore, it’s safe to say that we all have a general understanding of the situation.”
He mentioned how pleased he was that Miss Kim accompanied him, playfully stating, “Either one of us will go anywhere with you. [ A light chuckle ] And yet, they refer to me as John Mulaney, even though my full name is used less frequently. It’s a bit off, but here I am. Yes, Olivia is present with John Mulaney.” Correct. And they think the world of him.
The comedian mentioned that his family tends to be quite sensitive or conservative about numerous topics such as money, health, and nearly everything else, as they are considered off-limits or inappropriate.
The Luong family tends to discuss a variety of topics as soon as they meet someone. For instance, they might ask questions like, “How much money do you earn?” or “Why are you so thin?”
In his narrative, he included a tale featuring Miss Kim’s sibling, Foo – an engineer residing in Indianapolis – who made a trip to Chicago to meet him and Olivia.
Later at night, just as we were anticipating Foo’s arrival, he shows up. His belongings are packed neatly in a green trash bag. As soon as he arrives, he approaches me and asks, “What’s the state of your residency?” – That’s his first question, Mulaney notes.
Speaking as a die-hard fan, I can confidently say it’s not just any new world for me; it’s the most extraordinary new world! And let me tell you something fascinating – they’re Vietnamese, but they’re a unique breed, hailing from Oklahoma. That’s right, an extremely specific and captivating group. To add to the intrigue, Miss Kim was barely 20 when she set foot in America, and some of her siblings were on the cusp of their teenage years, almost 12.
He mentioned that they predominantly grew up with a mix of Vietnamese and Oklahoma accents. Consequently, he implied that he was willing to perform the task. However, he qualified his agreement by stating that the necessity of the task and the limited number of people who might find the accent offensive were factors in his decision. He made this remark prior to mimicking the accent.
